Mount Gay Old Cask Selection 1703
Light vanilla and bourbon-cask notes on the nose, then plum, wood and a bit of milk chocolate on the palate, finishing with cream toffee. This is an aged Bajan blend (10 to 30 years) that tasters call deep, elegant and nicely balanced. The one recurring gripe: at 43% the finish runs a touch short and some feel it could use more power.

This was the first English styled rum that I tasted and I didn’t appreciate it at all. A retest would certainly upgrade this rating a lot. Today I appreciate the Bajan style very much.

Schon ziemlich lecker dieser Mount Gay muss ich sagen, hätte ich nicht erwartet. Klar ist hier auch Frucht erkennbar, aber ansonsten eher süßlich, etwas Vanille haben wir hier, aber auch leicht holzig und würzig.

The nose has a lot of fruit, vanilla, and leather. The palate brings some complexity with vanilla, plum, and milk chocolate. The finish is the best part with cream toffee and peanut butter. Overall this is a delicious rum.

A really enjoyable Barbados rum. The nose is divine, light vanilla and bourbon cask elements. Mouth is not the most complex but plum and wood notes, not perfectly integrated but layers of flavour and real step up from some of the standard Mount Gay rums. The finish is lightly spicy and medium length. A super solid rum although it honestly feels a bit underpowered and would benefit from a bit more ABV

Sehr elegant und hübsch komplex präsentiert sich dieser Mount Gay, dessen einzige Schwäche der aufgrund der etwas geringen Alkoholstärke nicht sonderlich nachhaltige Abgang ist. Ansonsten befinden sich die fruchtigen Seiten mit den dunkleren Eichennoten und Gewürzen in einer harmonischen Balance. Gefällt mir richtig gut!

This is a great rum from Mt. Gay and one of my favourites from this destillery. The blend ranges from 10 to 30 years of age and thus the balance and complexity. This rum can compete with the greatest out there and at a really good price tag.

It feels like an old rum. The alcohols in the blend are 10 to 30 years old, more than 15 years old in the bottle. Dried tropical fruits. Caramel and dessert tones, leather, wood. Pretty solid.

Rum auctioneer win for a good price. I was 14 bottles in so shipping one more was cheaper… why not? Cork could not be saved but I won’t hold that against them. Pleasantly surprised based on the price point. I have enjoyed the updated Masters Select port and sherry casks. You can taste the older blend compared to those. Smooth and rich texture that coats the glass. Toasted coconut and fruits. Good sipping rum.
