Gordon & MacPhail Long Pond Jamaica Rum 1941
Tasters agree this is a special, one-off bottle — and several note it's not the Long Pond they expected. Instead of heavy pot-still weight, you get dried herbs, green olive, citrus and floral freshness up front, then banana, pineapple, glue and varnish, with oak, leather and light smoke on a very long finish. One member called it a "véritable mythe." Fine and complex rather than loud.

14.01.2026 Retasting and I still like it a lot, should have bought a few bottles when they were released. Once rested for a good while it actually releases far more flavours. --------- This rum burns in the beginning but after a short while in your mouth it releases an explotion of taste. A very well balanced rum where the alcohol doesn't dominate but integrates well.

A true myth among Jamaican rums, this Long Pond offers a unique experience. The olfactory journey begins with an astonishing floral freshness, herbaceous notes and olive. The woodiness is fine, despite the very advanced age. Spices emerge, with a hint of vanilla and licorice tickling the nostrils. Esters, glue and varnish are also present, along with citrus and tropical fruits (banana, pineapple) and a hint of pastry. There's a lovely aromatic balance, and it's both very elegant and complex. Aeration does it good. The attack on the palate is absolutely exquisite. Spices quickly lift the palate, followed by exotic fruits, which fade fairly quickly to make way for a myriad of other flavors. Medicinal and funky notes are particularly elegant and fine on the palate, as are oak, leather and that empyreumatic side that develops on bacon, rubber and smoky notes. There's also a touch of vegetal and herbaceous notes that add freshness. This is a refined rum with a singular texture, crisp and sparkling on the palate. The alcohol is remarkably well preserved. The finish lasts as long as the rum's ageing, with a fine woodiness that is enhanced by spices (pepper, vanilla). Tannins intrude on the palate to bring that warmth and dryness, contrasted by fruit (tropical and dried) and lingering freshness. The funkiness also lingers on the palate. A veritable monument to the world of rum, not as pronounced as other cuvées, but still incredibly subtle, balanced and ultra-complex.

Wow, guess this will be the best one today. Actually. Really cool Long Pond. But let's wait for the next Hampden ;-) But here also fruit, esters and above all banana and pineapple on the nose and palate. Delicious.

A wonderful, multi-layered nose, you can spend hours with it. Varnish and solvents dominate, tropical fruits, the next turn brings cocoa. After that, light rancio notes. Herbs and green olives. Like the color overall amazingly youthful.In the mouth a touch woodier, tropical fruit and very rusty.A long - very spicy - finish that makes your mouth water .😄A really great, interesting rum. Surprisingly youthful for its age. The NRJ DNA is well discernible. Must have been the perfect barrel...😄Objective of course difficult to judge.😉At the turntable turns Studio One, what else.

Extremly mild with esters and taste that we know from LP. Integrated alcohol. It is missing just the full taste that fill your mouth. This one is like if you wash your mouth with mild acohol. Not like if you pop up bonbon with aroma filling.

Vynikající komplexní velejemná záležitost z jamajky, konkrétně pak z palírny long pond. U takto starého kousku je překvapivé jednak vyšší ABV a druhak perfektní integrace dřeva. Bylinky, ovoce ale taky lepidlové tóny. Jen ta cena to trochu kazí
