HSE Sélection B.R.I - Très Vieux Agricole 2018
One taster called the nose "hyper pâtissier" — almond powder, marzipan, ripe mango and apricot over a soft vanilla-bourbon oak. The palate turns rounder and more classic: caramel, coconut and cocoa, with a bit of pepper lingering on the tongue. Several members find it surprisingly soft and sweet-leaning for an agricole, more pastry than grass. Easy to drink, and a couple felt it plays it a touch safe.

Very soft nose. Frank woodiness without being too pronounced. Vanilla and almond. On the palate, extremely soft and round at first, almost caramelized. Then woody and vanilla. A touch of coconut. The finish is similar. Caramel and wood. Quite pleasant and easy to drink. Surprising profile for an agricole.

Compared to the J.M XO: the nose of the JM is better (bolder, more candy like). Tastewise the HSE maybe wins by a small difference for me: it’s more elegant with less harshness to it, more easy going. Overall they’re really close but I finished the HSE sooner so that would be the winner for me today 😅 but now I can sniff the JM some more 😋

Magnificent, hyper-patissier nose of almond powder, mango, apricot and ginger. Surrounded by subtle oak and bourbon vanilla. The palate is a little disappointing... more classic caramel, vanilla and licorice. Nice keel though. Perhaps a little too reduced for me.

Ein leckerer Rum, ist leicht süßlich, aber alles im Rahmen. In der Nase hat man hier Vanille, Mandel und Marzipan. Im Gaumen geht es für mich dann in Richtung Vanille und Karamell. Kann man nichts mit falsch machen.
