Rum Nation Versailles Demerara 1990
Sip this one neat and slow, ideally with a cigar — it's built for that. Prunes, dry wood, herbs and a touch of anise, with a light sherry edge and some leathery, "dark, dirty" character that fans of old Guyana rum go for. The recurring gripe: at 45% several tasters find it thins out fast and wish for a few more percent.

Tolle Nase! Am Gaumen fehlen ihm leider ein paar Prozente. Ich mag aber den dunklen, dreckigen Charakter!

A nice dark spicy nose with the fruitiness of raisins, prune And dried sulfured apricot. This then adds a pleasant acidity of currant. Slightly leathery and dry wood brings in some more vanilla and nutmeg. The palate has a concentrated, salty-bitter-spicy attack. Malty, woody, again with nutmeg and some vanilla transitioning to anise. Flattened but unfortunately also quickly, which is certainly due to the dilution to 45%. In the finish spicy with anise, slightly bitter and some tea.nice nose, but unfortunately a little short...

Delicious. Unfortunately, I notice the dilution. Otherwise there would certainly have been more in it.

A delicious drop. I have dark fruit with this one. Prunes marinated in chestnut honey. On the palate it shows a lot of spices in addition to the sweetness, the wood comes through and the finish is accompanied by candied sugar, even if it is of medium length, probably due to the alcohol. A few % more would have done it good. But all in all a great rum

A pretty OK rum but I know they can do far better. Not the best one by far from Rum Nation. The nose is nice and fruity with vanilla and oak. There is a hint of sherry in there as well. The palate is also fruity, a bit dry and slightly bitter with spices and oak. The finish is medium to long, dry and lightly bitter with raisins and vanilla/oak.

Viele Guyana-typische Geschmacksaromen vorhanden. Kräuter, viel Holz und dunkle Früchte. Nicht zu komplex und zeitweise scharf.
Review by mto75
Sherry barrel aging complements the Versailles profile well. Nice nose with prune, wood, herbs and vanilla. I like the spicy palate as well. Not a complexity wonder, and lacks some power, but solidly made.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Very concentrated, lots of wood and tannins, some prunes, cassis and leather saddle, lots of bitterness, slightly salty, licorice, nutmeg and anise... a little thyme and in the finish also reminiscent of very woody Armagnac. for me personally too woody overall but still a top Versailles and very round, delicious and complex for a drinking strength. the sherry influence is fortunately not too dominant in any case!

Review by Franzi

I only liked it to a limited extent. The rum seemed stale on the nose. A little too thin on the palate. It was also a little too sweet for me.
