Swell de Spirits Worthy Park Private Garden No.2 2007

Caramelized banana, pineapple and mango sit next to real wood spice and a whiff of nail polish in this 15-year cask-strength Worthy Park. Tasters find it drier and spicier than the usual banana-forward WP, with roasted coffee, chocolate and pepper on a long, warm finish. Several say it needs air and a drop of water; a few even read it as almost cognac-like.

#4068 Looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money with this release. A fresh and fruity rum with nice spices ans a well balanced palate. The palate is lightly dry and naturally sweet with nice caramel and a light floral note. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is nice and I can pick up some chocolate and coffee notes.

Something bothers me about this Worthy Park, the spiciness pushes the fruitiness into the background. Definitely needs time in the glass. I'll probably put it to one side and let it develop a little more. Let's see if it helps. Edit: With a little time and a few drops of what is actually unusual for me, it gets better, but it still doesn't knock my socks off. Edit: Tried it again today as CubaLibre, but unfortunately it doesn't get me either. What a shame, actually.

On the nose, I would be more likely to be blind to a cognac than a rum - let alone a Worthy Park. On the palate, the rum profile becomes clearer, but the typical cognac fruit flavors are still quite present. A very exciting bottling on the border between cognac and heavy, aromatically complex rums, which surprises me in a positive way.

Worthy Park

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 360 Rums

Worthy Park is Jamaica's true cane-to-glass estate. Its land was granted in 1670, it runs the island's oldest and most efficient sugar factory, and it makes rum from molasses it produces itself. After falling silent in 1962, the distillery was rebuilt from scratch in 2005 and now bottles some of the most respected modern estate rum in the Caribbean.
