Asmussen Old Jamaica Rum
Sipped neat from a tasting glass among friends — this is a roughly century-old Jamaican bottling, and everyone who's had it treats it as a once-in-a-lifetime pour. The nose is all overripe pineapple, grilled fruit and coconut; the palate hits with esters, fruit and astringency before the 73% even registers. Several tasters guessed Hampden. Long, oily, fruit-soaked finish.

How does Asmussen Old Jamaica Rum taste?
Aggregated from 13 community reviews.
Century-old Jamaican ester bomb, fruit for days Near-universal awe — one taster reckons it "beats all modern Hampdens," and the recurring note is how invisibly the 73% sits. Only quibble: some find the finish a touch short.

Explosion of estery fruits, alcohol perfectly integrated. Wonderful in every possible way. It packed a whopping 73% but it was not noticeable. Best guess was a HV Hampden at +60% Never tasted anything like it. Probably never will again 🥲 No words, only love 😍

Einfach krass. Unfassbar gute Alkohol integration.

A very fruity nose of tropical and yellow fruits. The alcohol is terribly well integrated. On the palate, you can clearly feel the kick of the alcohol (73%!), but immediately afterwards the fruit invades the palate. The finish is long and lingering, with a hint of dried fruit. Quite a big difference between the rather sweet nose and the palate, which is still very lively for its age. Perhaps due to the fact that the bottle was opened about a year ago? A historic and delicious rum, which doesn't always go together.

What a treat! Beautiful nose with overripe pineapple and some roasted notes. The palate kicks you with nearly overwhelming mix of esters, fruits, astringency & alcohol, all surprisingly well integrated. Oily, full mouthfeel that stays with you forever. Endless finish that brings back to pineapples & other fruits. What an experience with a nearly 100yo rum. Thanks for sharing Artur 🥰

WOW! 91/100

Wow, gegrillte Ananas ohne Ende und Kokos. Am Gaumen etwas schwächer, aber unfassbares Niveau!

The highlight of the day was this high ester rum bottled around 100 years ago. Incredible fruity nose and pallet. One can only imagine what this rum must have tasted like a century ago. Simply amazing!!!

What an honor to be able to taste this incredibly old and incredibly delicious rum with friends new and old. When the glass was empty, the aromas continued to develop beautifully. Just a very unique experience.
