Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) S.B.S Guyana 1998
Best sipped neat with time in the glass — it opens soft, then the aroma hits. This is a Port Mourant Demerara given a heavy oloroso sherry treatment: prune, raisin, dark wood and spice, but a strong sulphur note runs through the whole thing. Some love the "dark but exquisite" depth; a few find the sherry and sulphur bury the rum underneath.

How does Uitvlugt (Port Mourant) S.B.S Guyana 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 29 community reviews.
Dry, sherry-heavy Demerara with sulphur Dry, intense sherried Port Mourant that people genuinely disagree on. The catch is the sulphur — some barely notice it, others say it smothers everything.

Very particular mouthfeel. Gentle in the first moment. Then the aroma hits!

smell of oloroso barrel with a touch of bitterness. taste is very complex, first the woody taste of the oloroso barrel which quickly fades to leave the place to the bitterness of the chocolate and then to a form of astringency. quite dry to the taste with an excellent length in mouth. alcohol very well integrated.

This is a very intense and dry rum from this bottler. Not in a bad way, but a nice change from the other rums. A fruity nose with a hint of metal and spices. The palate is semi complex but very intense with fruits, wood and a spicy warm feeling. The finish is very long and warm with spices and oak to top it off. Not the best from this bottler, but still pretty good.

little pity about the alcohol sensation. I love the dark side of the Port Mourant, dark but exquisite

The woodiness is very marked, as well as the brandy/fruit wine and metallic side. Prune and borderline oxidation. It's very good. Second pass: still... it's really good, I was a bit hard the first time so I'm bringing it back up a bit.

A beautiful product. For me, the sherry influence is ei. Little too strong so that the rum influence unfortunately decreases.

Ansonsten klassische Sport Mourant Noten.

Intensely strong, fruity spicy and lots of sherry. So I expected it and so he is also. I like it very much. Correction: in the meantime, it is too sherry-heavy for me! Cherry, plum and intense raisin, sulfured raisin. Slightly woody with vanilla and a sweetness towards maple syrup. The sherry cask also comes through intensely on the palate. Now a bit more tart, spicy. Leather but with a tart caramel sweetness. Prune and sour cherry. Some lovage. In the finish remains again lovage and slightly bitter wood. Sherry clearly takes over, but this does the Uitvlugt really well. A

Typical, continental aged Port Mourant. Very complex. A rum for the head, not for the heart.

Unfortunately, quite disappointing. Strong sulfur note, which overlays the overall picture and takes the rum in my eyes much of the potential charm of a Demerara matured in sweet wine barrels. Too bad.
