Tasted this rum at the Sweden Rum Fest 2026. Clément Canne Bleue was the first rum made exclusively from a single variety of sugarcane. The first vintage was launched in the year 2000 and a new vintage has been launched every year since then in a unique bottle design. This one was produced in Le Simon’s copper Creole column whereafter it was slowly reduced while resting for 6 months before bottling. The nose is soft, round, dry, fresh, vegetal, fruity, spicy and sweet with scents of citrus, lime, grapefruit, pepper and sugarcane. At the palate it’s round, dry, oily, fresh, vegetal, fruity, spicy and sweet with flavors of olives, citrus, lime, salt, pepper and sugarcane. The finish is rather long.

Clément's cuvée de la Canne Bleue continues to arouse enthusiasm and expectation, particularly in view of developments in the premium white rum market. We find again the markers that have made it such a success: sugar cane, fresh yet subtle, citrus fruits, notably lime and grapefruit, beautiful, highly perfumed floral notes and a touch of greenery that recalls the agricultural and traditional spirit. It's inviting, tasty, but not extravagant. On the palate, the attack is clean and smooth. Citrus fruits are present, but the vegetal notes are more intimidating, with a hint of spice in the background that lifts the body on the palate. Round and dry, but lacking a little something to make the mouth feel ecstatic. The rather short finish reveals only a light fruity veil on which vegetal and herbaceous notes rest, a little freshness that is surprisingly accompanied by a dry, brittle finish. The 2021 edition had set the bar very high, and perhaps expectations were too high for such a rum. Nonetheless, it remains one of the best companions for Ti Punch and a well-rounded cuvée.

Between the nose, the palate, and the finish, this rum takes us through several stages. The nose is dry, fresh, leaning towards lime: you expect a fairly light and tasty, fresh rum. The palate is drier than the nose suggests. The rum leans more towards lime and citrus. Slightly iodine and peppery: the palate is more complex than it seems. The finish is relatively long but discreet, rather salty and earthy. A rum worth between 45 and 50€ in my opinion. Below 40€ it's a good deal, at 60€ there are much better options.

A very fine year for citrus and green pepper. A ti punch that's ready to serve!

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 330 Rums

Le Simon is Martinique's ghostwriter. It is the island's most technologically advanced distillery, yet it sells no rum under its own name, runs no public tours, and ages nothing on site. Instead it distils two of the most beloved names in Martinique agricole, HSE and, until recently, Clement, on stills moved here from their original homes. What you taste as HSE is, in fact, Le Simon.
