Cadenhead‘s Uitvlugt GM 1974
Everyone who's tried this old Demerara lands in the same place: a beautiful, classic aged rum. Stewed plum, dried fruit and wood on the nose, then an oily palate carrying tobacco, espresso and dark chocolate. At 60.3% the alcohol shows up front but blows off after a while in the glass. One taster notes it lacks a single standout quirk — but nobody's disappointed.

14.06.2009 A wonderful tasting with a few expats. This is thetasting where I met my long time friend in rum tasting, Tony. A guy from Singapore working and living in Shanghai. He also shared a passion for archery like me, which ended up in many hours spend together. Notes. Very dark in colour. Wood with plum/prune notes and herbal notes. Oily palate with roasted wood and coffee. Slight coffee notes on a very long finish.

Cadenheads Uitvlugt GM 1974 30y 60,3% (bottled 2005) Nose: Plum jam, dried fruit, wood, light herbal notes, minimal traces of sulphur Palate: Initially a clearly recognizable alcohol note, but this disappears almost completely after approx. 30 minutes. Spiciness and subtle bitterness remain, hinting at subliminal espresso notes. There is also plum, wood, a hint of tobacco and a sweet pastry note reminiscent of cookies. Finish: medium-long, rather sweet. Significantly shorter than the Silver Seal 1974, but this is primarily due to its strong smoky note. Sweetness of dried fruit, plus some wood and cane sugar. Conclusion: Beautiful, classic old Demerara rum from continental storage. Despite the long ageing period, the cask is not too dominant, i.e. the bitter notes are pleasantly restrained. Nevertheless, the unique selling point in the taste profile is missing a little.

Port mourant 1974, the 60,3% is so good balanced, Demerara brown sugar plum, and dark fruit. AMAZING!!!!
