This 12-year ex-bourbon Foursquare pours on toasted coconut, vanilla, caramel and a bourbon-like woodiness, with a light whiff of glue that many tasters mention. At 60% the alcohol sits shockingly well-integrated — most call it soft and rounded. Give it 20-30 minutes in the glass and the tropical fruit and coconut really open up.

Much milder than the direct predecessor from 2009. Thanks to the very pronounced sweetness pleasantly uncomplicated to drink, significantly less spiciness than other bottlings of the Foursquare distillery. The profile holds few surprises, but quality definitely cannot be denied. Could turn out to be a real PLV hit - if the issue price should remain with us a little longer.

Overall a rather soft rum, despite the 60%, which can’t disappoint anyone that likes Barbados rum. We were some friends teaming up at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm to celebrate Foursquare Appreciation Day. We started up with tasting of the four different ones seen at the added photo under lead of our friend the Swedish importer Lars Renbjer. The third out was the 2010 (ECS XXI), a Single Blended Rum at cask strength (60%) consisting of pot still as well as column still rums aged in ex-Bourbon American oak casks. ... Foursquare is a distiller from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday drinking. It's a rum that will be appreciated especially by Rumarians who are fed up with sugar and are looking for a smooth, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Just pleasant and not aggressive flavours.

Edit Edit: had it in the glass again today as a mixer for me easy ColaMixer, but wife says BountyCola, great comment. Too often spoiled with Caronis and Demerara. It's her own fault she doesn't like it anymore 😅 Thanks to Chris2302 for getting it cheap at the last fair for 83€ better than the Doorly's Edit: 10.05.24 Tasted it again today against the ECS 2011. Therefore corrected downwards because I like the 2011 with its creaminess better. Another solid Foursquare and at a normal price, not like the ESC at utopian prices. Also recommended as a mixer for CubaLibre. Very drinkable and now also available at reasonably moderate prices.

Another high quality bottling out of the „vintage“ ECS range at a very good price point. Delivers the classic Foursquate notes at a high ABV (ie high intensity), providing a nice sipping experience. Side-by-side with the 2011 ECS, this one has more glue-y notes on the nose alongside the classic FS profile. Similar in the palate: more punch versus the 2011, ie a bit less balance and a little more demanding.

29.11.2025 Retastings and I still like it. ------------ This sample arrived today so I just had to give it a go right away 😊 This is a really nice release and it's warmer in the palate than its predecessors. Fruity and well balanced and true to its origin. Price to quality is very good.

A delicious ecs release from Foursquare! A great nose. On the palate it's quite sweet in a nice way, lots of fruits and vanilla. Amazingly well integrated and balanced, it's all too easy to drink! Gets better as it sits in the glass. not massively complex but still an absolute hit for me. Shortish finish (which is a good thing in this case, just means I have to drink more😁) I love Foursquare's consistent quality when it comes to their ecs series. I have revised this rating after comparing it directly with the 2011

Very very dark foursquare profile. On the nose a bit austere and intense after fresh lacquer color, taste then all the more beautiful: dark roasted coconut chips, cocoa, overripe banana, strong and cappuccino and very strong roasted flavors. Alcohol top integrated. Very coherent. Pleases better and better the longer you spend with him. Only the finish is unfortunately a bit short...

8,8:On the nose the aroma delivers notes of vanilla, pineapple, rock fruit, sweet mango, funkiness and ripe bananas front and center. At the midpoint anise, black cherry and orange zest. As these notes fade, a light note of acetone drifts in along with black pepper and graphite mineral notes. 8,7:Like the aroma, the caramelized vanilla leads the way with a warm, dry entry. Fruit and spice notes hit the palate fast and it takes a little while to decipher everything coming at the palate. Flavor notes of peach, banana flambe, plums and grilled pineapple are found.Spice notes arrive at mid-palate, releasing black pepper, cloves, anise, cinnamon, baking spices and quite strong alcohol. 8,8:As the flavors fade, the pepper lingers a bit and the oak tannins really come out to play in a long, warm end. Foursquare at its best... Very memorable.👌...

It needs at least half an hour's rest in the glass to express its aromas, especially when the bottle is opened. The nose is strongly marked by coconut, but there's also vanilla, an elegant woodiness and a touch of bourbon. On the palate, the coconut is so pronounced that you can almost feel it crunching under your teeth. Astonishing! Caramel replaces the vanilla on the nose, adding even more deliciousness. But the wood and bourbon give enough bitterness to balance this rum on the finish. A great success!

Dried fruits,candied ginger, caramel, cinnamon, vanillasauce, baked apple, sweet, quite some chocolate and coffee. There is tar some prunes. Finish is medium with a lot of mandarin and cardboard. Very nice Bottle, I got 2 of them at 85 euros. Great value. It’s behind the 2009 for me personally, but I guess that’s just preference.

Heck of a rum and so glad I was able to sample this at Sweet Liberty bar on South Beach, Miami. Nice balance of wood, coconut, tropical fruits, warm spice on both the nose and palate and dangerously sippable. Finishing the evening with this and Hampden Great House 2020 back-to-back was quite a treat.

Solid rum, probably not quite as brilliant and intense as the 2008 or 2009. Who gets the Foursquare bottlings at the issue price, should strike, because you can not do much wrong here.

A rather singular Foursquare of its kind. It's like drinking a Pina Colada from a coconut under the coconut trees. The profile is all about coconuts. The nose is very soft and welcoming, with its sweet spices, caramel and sweetness, a few buttery, gourmand notes of bourbon and, above all, coconut (of course). On the palate, a few empyreumatic notes break through, including burnt sugar, roasted touches and crème brûlée. Apart from that, the profile remains very classic for a Foursquare: spices, wood, chocolate and caramel, not forgetting the eternal coconut, very dominant on the palate. It's impossible to detect the 60 degrees. There's a decent length on the palate, once again superseded by coconut. The profile is greedy and well controlled, but the concentration of coconut really comes to the fore. Interesting value for money.

I've tasted this several times now. On the nose and palate, it's simply a good, classic Foursquare rum. I only notice with this edition that the typical flavors are less pronounced. The spiciness, glue and the alcohol content are too dominant for me. As a result, it lacks complexity and fullness. It's certainly still a good FS rum. But I liked the 2011, for example, slightly better.

Knowing only the 2005 I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by this vintage.it would not be a Foursquare if there were not these fruits ( Coconut / Banana / Prunes / Dried fig ) and this greediness ( Butter / Coconut oil / Chocolate / Pastry / Caramel / Brown sugar / Fatty nut ).always a great woody which brings us sweet spices ( Vanilla / Cinnamon / Clove ) and a toasted side as well as notes of cooking. We even have on the final a very small vegetable point but not green (Bergamot / Black tea / Tobacco). As usual Foursquare quality!

Poured from a freshly opened bottle. I’m not getting the expected coconut notes except in the finish. Looking forward to sample it again in a few weeks after the rum had time to breath a little. Edit: The Coconut notes started to appear after a good 20 minutes in the glass.

A lively nose of star anise, spiced orange, vanilla, and licorice root with undertones of Black Forest cake; a lengthy, elegant palate opens with cinnamon and clove before progressing into bananas foster, fresh plum, and salted caramel with notes of pineapple and toasted pine nut.

The nose is caramel, vanilla, and a slight bit of varnish. The taste is caramel, butterscotch, and vanilla. The finish is long with spice. This is a very good rum with not much complexity. It is a well executed expression.

Compared to the previous FS 2009, the fragrance is less pronounced to the point of being boring. The difference with 09 is striking. In all respects, the 2010 feels impoverished. Taste-wise, it's certainly not bad, but once you've tasted a vintage as loaded as 09, any successor will have a very hard time.

Pronounced coconut and vanilla meets a surprising amount of wood, sweet bourbon and a touch of varnish. Overall, very pleasant on the nose. With a little air, chocolate, coffee, banana and plum come through. The more this thing can breathe the fruitier it gets. At 60% fantastically integrated alcohol that never stings.On the palate then almost unbelievably mild. Quite pronounced sweetness with bourbon, vanilla and caramel. In the middle part chocolate, coffee and younger wood. In the final third, tingly pineapple and toasted coconut come through.Finish rather medium in length, but very nice. Fruity-woody and pleasantly warm.Overall dangerously drinkable and absolutely round. Strike as long as to have, here everything is right.

Look at that, I haven't even rated it yet... I really like the series anyway, because you can always find differences in small nuances. The 2010 has the typical Foursquare notes, quite an ABV which comes with a lot of oomph and aroma. Fruity, intense woody and vanilla nose, nicely complex on the palate without becoming too complicated. Could do with a little air, loses a little of its edge as a result. Foursquare makes high quality rum with a mild flavor which is too often ruined by their overuse of casking. This rum only gets it's relatively high rating due to it's high abv, which makes the rum taste like a sweet whiskey. In the end, if I want to drink something that tastes like whiskey then I'll drink whiskey, at much lower price. I exclusively drink this neat. I won't rebuy.

Ähnliches Urteil wie bei dem 2011, lecker, solide, aber irgendwie „alles schon mal so gehabt“. Man könnte auch sagen, es ist ein Zeichen von guter Handwerkskunst, dass Foursquare bei den ECS-Abfüllungen eine durchgehende hohe Qualität abliefert. In direkten Vergleich fand ich den 2011 minimal besser. Insgesamt hat mir bei den letzten 7-8 ECS Releases der Isonomy noch am besten gefallen.

At first sight the nose of this 2010 is very alcoholic, it took a good half hour for the first notes of coconut to appear, we find the usual markers; greedy wood, slightly peppery, toasted caramel ... In the mouth, the alcohol is less present, but is still well felt, we keep the peppery and greedy side thanks to the finish in ex-bourbon cask, the length remains relatively short!This 2010 is not my favorite and lacks a bit of character, I think I'll come back to it in a few days to let the bottle oxidize and maybe reveal more interesting things.

Some on with initial caramel, and some background citrus--less than the next two years of this 4-square series. Probably a little less complex and interesting than the 2009 and 2011. But still exceptional, as the name implies. Has plenty of the classic Foursquare character.
