Zweite Verkostung, -2 Punkte.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A particularly powerful, full-bodied Fijian rum. Yet the nose suggests a more supple rum, with notes of exotic fruit, esters, cherry, wood, toast, floral notes, caramel and milk chocolate. The bourbon cask reinforces this impression of deliciousness. The attack on the palate is muscular and intense. Empyreumatic notes and spices quickly raise the temperature, followed by dry oak and tannins. A bitterness settles in with esters, while pineapple and aromatic herbs try to make their way through the alcohol, here particularly powerful. The finish is very long and clean. Smoky, woody and spicy notes dominate, but floral, herbal and medicinal essences, accompanied by exotic and dried fruits, balance this highly concentrated profile. A rum with a strong sensation, not to be placed in every hand.

not bad, but I had expected a bit more from the framework data. It lacks a little complexity, the high ABV is (still) neatly integrated.
Review by Thunderbird
The nose is beguilingly fruity (sour cherry and other sweet / sour red fruits), the longer it lingers also join toasty coffee aromas. On the palate first the full power of alcohol! 68% want to be tamed ... but once this is done, intense atoms of wood, barrel, mocha and herbs develop! Finally, a distinct note of violet appears!!!Like the palate, the finish continues...intensely woody and herbal. Would theAlcohol better integrated there would have been at least 2-3 points more!

This was a very nice release. The overall balance is really nice and I really liked the switch from nose to palate. The empty glass reveals even stronger notes ogmf chocolate and roasted wood.

At 20 years old and then a whopping 68%, I'm very curious... Nose: unusually reserved and closed at the beginning. But you immediately notice a very concentrated fullness of aromas. Very pleasant, soft and yet intense oak, which combines wonderfully with vanilla, maple syrup and brown caramel. Old, dried star anise and dried orange slices are subtly spicy. Dark fruits such as blackberry and cherry provide some subtle fruit, while kelso and tonka bean add further sweetness. Has a malty effect. Very round, deep and atypical for Fiji, but very pleasant. The 68% is not noticeable in the slightest. 8,8 Palate: Beautiful! Intense and powerful, yet balanced. Very well integrated alcohol. Woody, spicy and dark fruity at the same time. Old oak and sandalwood and again the dried star anise and dried orange together with nutmeg and vanilla. It is also roasty, malty and slightly salty. Sweetness of maple syrup, tonka bean and chocolate. 9,0 The typical Fiji aromas are also to be found here, but this is a great, aromatically deep rum.

On the nose, the rum still seems a little unrounded, a subtle herbal off-note is recognizable; apart from that, tart fruit notes. However, this not particularly promising start turns into a very balanced profile on the palate with heavy sweet notes of toffee, vanilla and milk chocolate as well as ripe tropical fruit, light spice and some floral notes. I find the alcohol integration perfectly acceptable for the high strength, the 68% is recognizable but by no means unpleasant. A positive surprise.

Foursquare on the nose, almost true Albion. Speaks for 2004 vintage influence. Spicy barrel notes, vanilla, drunk fruit. Caramelized tree nuts, sauna wood, light licorice. Mouth neat chocolate and very toasty. But it comes across as a bit disappointing. Finish dry, salty, spicy, alcoholic. Not optimally integrated. Based on the very tasty nose, I would have expected more.

The definition of a Brett and High Ester rum that was fermented wild even if it tastes different than Hampden, the association with Jamaica is somehow there. Best High Ester Fiji Rum I had so far in the glass. Deductions in the B grade because the alcohol is already noticeable there.

I haven't had the 2002 Fiji before, so I'm curious. And it’s got 20 years on it. On the nose, it’s different than expected—hardly any esters left, but that’s not surprising given the age. Instead, you get coffee, sweet milk chocolate, and caramel. With a bit of time, a hint of fruit comes through. Overall, quite unremarkable, similar to the 2004 Nobilis. 79/100 On the palate, though, there’s a surprise. There’s still a great fruity aroma that complements the aging flavors perfectly. A nice mix of sweet and bitter, reminds me of slightly burnt sugar. The 68% ABV is noticeable but well integrated. 85/100 The finish is another little highlight. Overall rating then 82 + 2 extra for the great overall package.

Strong rum with lots of barrel notes and strong roasted aromas. Pleases with very well. Goes more in the direction of the 2004s. Amazing how similar the vintages are. Very good rum. Alcohol content extreme but just caught. Somewhat below expectations.

First time tasting a Fijian rum. Despite its high ABV, it is surprisingly soft, the alcohol integration is very good. A lot of different flavours : very fruity, caramel, coffee and moka, toasted, wood/cask, chili. The nose is very nice, palate is warm and gives bitterness. Finish is long and sweet.
