Here's the twist: this is a Caroni that stays clean. Yes, the rubber, tar and oiled-machine notes are there, but they sit in the background behind toffee sweetness, mint, cacao and light fruit. At 62.9% the alcohol carries weight without scorching. Several tasters called it a "controlled" Caroni — one even called it "a too clean and fruity for a caroni." A gentle way into the style.

Also a retaste for me and again I stick to the initial score. A light Caroni in my ming but the overall balance is really good. In my mind the price tag on this rum is high compare to what you get. That said it's still a pretty good Caroni. Not super heavy in the traditional notes, but a more controlled version. The rubber and tar is there as well as nice wood and light fruit with light spice, mint and also herbal notes.

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Edit: nach einiger Zeit nochmal getestet. Bleibt be der Bewertung, aber der Preis wäre es mir nicht wert für eine ganze Flasche. Ein netter Caroni, aber es gibt bessere. Er gehört definitiv nicht in dir dreckige Ecke. Eher geeignet um jemanden die Tür zu Caroni zu öffnen. Danke DomM fürs Sample.

Nose is comparably delicate. Dominated by some Caroni notes alongside sweet/malty notes and some fruits. Quite approachable Sweet and fruity on the palate; some mint and cacao as well. Dirty notes are only present on the finish alongside some menthol. Very tasty. However, too delicate to excite friends of the dirty profile imho.

Einer meiner ersten Caronis und echt mal was anderes, wobei ich bei dem Preis andere tolle Rums vorziehen würde. 2. Verkostung: Nach wie vor außergewöhnlich gut. Werde jetzt noch einen anderen 98er Caroni dagegen stellen. Mal gucken.

wie viele andere (kontinentale) 98er Caronis, gut zugänglich, mit viel Toffee-Süße, Politur und leicht fruchtigen Noten. Am Gaumen dann nicht mehr ganz so zahm, hier Werkstatt, Tabak, Mokka. Einer Fruchtfliege, die ständig um das Glas schwirrt (und sich auch trotz wilder Handbewegungen nicht abschütteln lässt) scheint vom Profil des SBS sehr angetan 😅

Schöner Vertreter aus 1998, alle typischen Marker der HTR-Caronis sind im Profil eingebunden, der Alkohol bringt Kraft ein, ohne zu überlagern; würzig, leicht adstringierend, dennoch mit einer schönen Restsüsse. Sehr gut.

Solid 98 caroni, rather unusually floral and fruity overall. Alcohol is well integrated and overall much more complex than the RA in my opinion. You can do it, definitely!

Schöne süße, fruchtige Noten. Aber das Caroni typische nur dezent im Abgang. Vor allem im direkt Vergleich mit dem Cave Guildive fällt er für mich klar ab.
