Milano Rum Festival & Barmetro Diamond 2003

Sipped neat, this Diamond leans into wood, roasted notes and citrus, with chocolate and a touch of licorice/anise on the palate. At 55.8% it's full-bodied and punchy but not aggressive. The catch a few tasters flag: the sweetness runs heavier than expected for a Guyanese Demerara — one even mistook it for a sweet-wine-finished cask in a blind lineup.

A great success. Atypical markers, a deep, well-worked and well-balanced rum, with a lovely finish, a little bitter but full-bodied.

Pleasing Diamond, heavy sweetness, spice, wood, some citrus notes - good release, though without the very big sophistication.

If I had not known better (but error excluded), I could have sworn stone and stone, this would be the parallel tasted SBS Diamond Versailles 2003 (Marsala finish, RX4341) because of a strongly perceptible sweet wine barrel. [In principle, nice rum, which you really do not notice its Guyana origin, but for me a tad too thickly applied sweetness. Ideal to lead someone on a blind tasting nicely on the ice. 🤣
