Depaz Private Cask (Premium Craft Spirits Selection) 2010
"Trop de bois pour moi," one taster sighed — and that's the split here. This 11-year Depaz agricole from Martinique leads with heavy oak, then sugarcane freshness, menthol, pepper, vanilla and dried fruit, with leather and dark chocolate underneath. Bottled at 58.2%, it runs dry and tannic with a long finish. Lovers of the distillery call it authentic; others find the wood dominates.

Red fruits and wood on the nose. The palate is really explosive with very intense woody notes of leather, peat and cork. It all remains very dry.Tannic, earthy and slightly bitter on the finish that remains long and persistent, but I like it less than on the palate, could have reached 93.Empty glass smells of esters and wood

Dommage. Merci à Rodolphe pour le sample.

Very pleasant Depaz, very natural, the French oak brought its dose of spice and a hint of vanillin. My preference is still for the previous vintages in the SC series (the 2000 in the lead) because for roughly the same price there was more concentration and complexity.

Full of taste, integrated alcohol but .. come on, I hate that wine like taste!

Without direct comparison very high level! I must soon compare with the other private casks.
