DDL El Dorado Cask Strength Single Still Enmore EHP 2009
What surprises most people is how sweet this reads for a cask-strength Demerara. From the EHP mark and the wooden Coffey still you get burnt caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut and a bit of oak, with an oily, syrupy mouthfeel. A few dried apricot and spice notes round it out. Not the most complex Enmore, but the alcohol sits well at 54.3%.

If you like the beguiling notes of fresh oak with caramel and vanilla that so often accompany tropically aged Demeraras, you'll be right at home here. While there aren't too many other flavors to add to the flavor profile besides a few nuanced spice aromas and subtle dried fruits, this concentration and syrupy melt alone are simply fun for me as a Demerara lover and probably also give the bottling a subjective flavor bonus in the rating. No rum that would overwhelm on the basis of its complexity - instead simply seductively delicious at a high level.

Nose: Slight Burnt Caramel, a hint of vanilla, slight vegetal notes, lime juice, Dried Apricot Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla Bean, black tea, dried apricot, faint lime Finish: Medium length finish, Burnt Caramel, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla, Black Tea, Lime, Dried Apricot Rating: 7/10 This is a great rum. Oily mouthfeel, good finish. It hits you in that dessert rum kind of mood with the caramel, vanilla, and coconut. Some of the savory elements bring it in. Tropically aged DDL is awesome and Im glad these are available in the US.

This is a very nice bottling and a well balanced one indeed. Love the round almost velvety profile with its fruity side well mixed with nuts, chocolate and nice caramel. This was the last one in the tasting and I'm happy we saved it for last. Not that it was a huge argument, because when you have cask finishes you want to start with those first 😊

Overall a really good rum. I still lean Port Mourant as I think it has more complexity, but this is a really good classic molasses rum with vanilla, caramel, and a really good burnt sugar finish. There was a bit more alcohol vapor on the nose than I expected.

Ein Mitbringsel aus New York. War dort für unter 120$ im Angebot ein Schnäppchen, das seines Gleichen sucht. Warum bietet El Dorado den nicht hier an?! Die Nase so wie man es von einem tropischen Enmore erwartet: weich, süßlich, schweres Karamell gerahmt von Schokolade und Nuss-Nougat. Ein Hauch Tabak gibt etwas Tiefe. Bei Stefan parallel einen Dictador im Glas gehabt und blind könnte ich beide an der Nase nicht unterscheiden. Im Mund wird er deutlich trockener und ruppiger. Eine Politur-Note und eine an Whisky erinnernde Getreidigkeit (Ovomaltine) sorgt für mehr Kanten. Im Mund konnte er den Dictador deutlich hinter sich lassen. Zwar ist auch der Enmore eine echte Kolonne, aber er bringt doch mehr Körper mit als die üblichen Spanier. Der tanninreiche Abgang könnte etwas länger sein. Die süße Schokolade aus der Nase ist hier sehr dunkel > 80%. Mich erinnert er so stark an den 1996er Enmore, dass er sich mit der gleichen Bewertung zufrieden geben muss. Vielleicht gibt es irgendwann mal ein Rematch. Ein schöner Vergleich wäre auch ein 2001er SWR mit dieser typischen Cappuccino-Karamell-Note, das ist bestimmt sehr ähnlich.

Clearly better than the 40% version! Really nice, unusually sweet Enmore. Alcohol is perfectly integrated. Burnt caramel, vanilla, green pepper, raisin and dried apricot, a bit of coconut, cola and molasses, dark chocolate and nutmeg, and very subtle mint and allspice. I surprisingly like it a lot and it’s fun! Makes you want to pour yourself another glass right away! 😁🤤

Nordlichter Treffen 21.08.2026 Bemerkenswert guter Rum. Er ist zwar im Vergleich nicht der komplexeste aber unfassbar geschmeidig und lecker. Klassische Guyana Noten von Holz, Würze und Trockenfrüchten. Sehr rund und ausbalanciert mit angenehmer Süße.
