A pleasant mild PM, but more on the woody side. I like it, but it might not be to everyone's taste. I also detect some red fruit and aniseed on the nose. The same on the palate and minimal olive, alongside the dominant wood. This is also how the finish ends.

Small 1989 Utivlugt cross tasting: Nobilis vs. CorCol vs. CoR vs. Ricci vs. TWJ. On the nose: CoR >>> Ricci > TWJ = Nob > CC With its higher ABV the CoR is playing in a wholly different league - stunning on the nose. CC needs very much time to open up. TWJ with the darkest nose; Most leather and wood forwards. Palate: CoR > Nobilis > CC > TWJ >> Ricci The TWJ also feels a little watered down to much comparatively. However it is better balanced than the Ricci. Wood and herb forwards.

Compared to the Nobilis No 6 (89, 31 yr), the WJ has the more typical PM nose with lots of olive, anise, gooseberry, caramel. Barrel, black tea on the palate. The tart finish compensates quite well for the rather low ABV.

The palate is slightly sour, and there is still 89 Uitvlugt's wood tone, and the woody aroma is not abrupt but not very comfortable. The flavor is a bit messy and missing, that itself (or aging...) or the degree is too low is unknown. The same question as Silver Seal Demerara 89(RX3567), but given that its counterpart is 55.8% but it is only 46.7%, I think there is an improvement. RA 1989(RX7791) solves these problems well, complex and balanced. In general, the flavor concentration of this bottle still needs to be improved and lacks some feature of aging. The finish is short. It's more like whisky, not as rich and powerful as Perola's low-proof rum.

Nice gentle profile with damp & mushroomy notes. The wood adds some sweetness & spices, but could be better integrated. Unfortunately a bit thin & short on the finish, would have loved to see this with a higher abv.

#4501 01.12.2023 This one needs to rest for a good while before giving it a go. A pretty nice release with heavy wood notes on one side and a kind of light profile on the other. Medium fruity with a nice licorice touch. The palate is oily and medium dry with a nice smoky touch. The finish long and warm with some citrus. I really like the light smoky note in the profile. The empty glass has some leather and faint caramel.

👃 Fruits confits de cake de Noël, pâte de fruits (poire, mandarine, abricot, cerise), sève, racines confites, sucre d'orge, bonbons à l'anis, bonbons contre le mal de gorge, réglisse en rouleau. Un peu de goudron chaud par moment, chêne poli, très légère saumure sans les esters. 😋 Pas mal de tanins, on retrouve le boisé réglissé plus qu'anisé, des fruits rouges confits (encore ceux du cake de Noël), un côté fermentaire, des cerises aigres, du cuir, du thé noir, de la fumée de bois, une note d'olive verte. Un profil sec, amer et acide. l'ABV est faible et ne se fait jamais ressentir. Ce dram me fait penser à un whisky très légèrement tourbé vieilli en fût de sherry. ⛳ Longue, chaleur sucrée, douce, amère, astringente, puis asséchante. Le sucre d'orge de plante de montagne, des agrumes et cerises confites, du thé noir, puis du tabac à cigare. 💡 Un très joli Port Morant, sans la note de savon, pas de boisé humide ni de métal. À la place, des fruits confits, des notes végétales et racineuses, une douceur de sucre d'orge sucré amer. Pas d'une complexité sidérante malgré quelques finesses qui apparaissent si on lui laisse le temps. Un joli Demerara loin des profils torréfiés plus connus.

Alles in allem eine solide Abfüllung von The Whisky Jury, aber jetzt nicht wo ich mich drum reißen würde. Finde das er schon eher auf der holzigen Seite ist. Meines Erachtens braucht er auch eine Zeit im Glas bis er sich wirklich entfaltet.

Disclaimer: not yet recovered, so my judgment is clouded. Poured a shot of DDL’s 1998 PM, which I like a lot, to compare in parallel. Very similar on the nose, TWJ is even fruitier and typical PM. More bitter on the palate and not convincing but the DDL today is quite similar. So maybe no tasting for the next days

25/01/2025: tasted @ Liquid Leuven in "De Hoorn". Since this bottling was only available for the Asian market, I just had to try it. How could I refuse a 33 years old rum, distilled at Uitvlugt using the PM still? Difficult to write down notes, as this was the last rum I tried that day (palate fatigue).
