Corman Collins Uitvlugt Rum Demerara 1989
Most tasters like this 32-year Uitvlugt but keep one reservation: at 49.5% it reads a touch diluted, so the wood and roasted notes run ahead of the fruit. Expect old leather, tobacco, oak and licorice with mango and a light minty edge. The nose is the star; several felt the palate and short finish left them wanting a bit more punch.
The community says- Beautiful complex nose
- Old leather and licorice
- Too diluted

How does Corman Collins Uitvlugt Rum Demerara 1989 taste?
Aggregated from 22 community reviews.
Old, woody Guyana rum, slightly too soft A very good aged Guyana rum, but many compared it to hotter 1989 Uitvlugts and felt this one is slightly too diluted, wood-forward with a short finish.

A rum for which I had high expectations on paper. A very dark color. The nose combines old varnished wood and butter, pineapple, mango and leather. The palate is very smooth, woody, slightly mentholated, without heaviness despite the age of the beast. The finish is a little short, with wood that is (too) present but elegant. The nose is beautiful and complex, but the palate and finish leave me wanting more.

A very nice 1989 Uitvlugt perhaps starting to show its age, hints of oak and a bit drying. However all the typical notes of an old guyana rum! I'm getting licorice and old leather and some peppery notes, some fruits and caramel as well.

Small 1989 Utivlugt cross tasting: Nobilis vs. CorCol vs. CoR vs. Ricci vs. TWJ. On the nose: CoR >>> Ricci > TWJ = Nob > CC With its higher ABV the CoR is playing in a wholly different league - stunning on the nose. CC needs very much time to open up. TWJ with the darkest nose; Most leather and wood forwards. Palate: CoR > Nobilis > CC > TWJ >> Ricci

Attack a little soft, rough, pencil lead, graphite, light menthol, wood, worn varnish, alcohol too weak to hold, almost oxidized finish.

The age alone promises a lot, and indeed, of course, there is quite a bit of aroma in the glass here. But I can not get rid of the impression that it was a rather less mediocre barrel of the vintage, because despite the reduction, the roasted note is still very clearly recognizable. Presumably, the reduction to below 50% but exactly against this background has taken place, so remains a relatively round rum, which lacks but a bit of temperament, ie the last aromatic force.

A rum that I had wanted to try for a long time. The anticipation was correspondingly great. The disillusionment came pretty quickly. A solid rum, of course. But nothing more. The floral and fruity aromas fall short due to the large amount of wood and roasted aromas. Too bad.
