Carrere Montebello Le brut de fût 8 ans 2014
Sipped neat, this Guadeloupe agricole leans surprisingly sweet — honeyed sugarcane, lemon peel, roasted wood and baking spice. The nose wins most people over; the palate splits them. Several call it dangerously easy-drinking with toffee and dried fruit, while others hit a bitter, citrus-zest turn on the finish and find the fresh, vegetal side fighting the cask.

Pleasant nose, but too much citrus on the palate. I liked the 10-year-old much better. No finesse. Not worth the price.

Tasted at the Whisky & Rum aan Zee festival IJmuiden 2023. Tasted this next to the Bielle 2016. Very different. Creamy. More woody.
Review by Jarek
Nose still quite good, disappointing on the palate.

Overall a sophisticated rum with a great nose, that maybe has a little bit too kind and soft flavors to get a really high score in my opinion. This rum, a Brut de Fût, from the Carrere Distillery in Guadeloupe is aged for 8 years in Ex-Bourbon barrels before bottled at a rather low cask strength.

Super sweet agricole. Toffee/tonka bean/dried hay/vanilla pods and biscuit dough. Reminds blind rather of reimonenq. Very delicate, elegant and neither too dry nor too sweet. Also an unusually low alcohol content for such a young brut de fut! Overall, however, really harmonious and dangerously drinkable with enough character to remain exciting.

Not bad but could also be better. Trying this one after a Bielle 2014 brut de fut wasn't my best choice.

A good representative of Guadeloupe in cask strength. Very sweet, so pleasant and easy to sip. Personally, it's not the style of Agricole I prefer.
Review by DomM
Feels unbalanced. Fresh/vegetal notes fight with notes from the cask without creating a working picture. Starts off rather sweet wirh a bitter turn on the finish.

Mmm... erste Nase sehr angenehm.

Review by Serge
Review by Pascal Gwada
Review by Thunderbird
