Montebello Le brut de fût 8 ans 2014
Sipped neat, the nose sells it hard — fresh sugarcane juice, honey, lemon peel and a little roasted wood and spice. The palate is where opinions cool: sweet and syrupy up front, green and vegetal like a much younger agricole, then wood, nutmeg and a drying, sometimes bitter citrus turn. Only 47.9% for a cask strength, so it drinks soft.

- Easy-drinking
- But: Sweet, syrupy

How does Montebello Le brut de fût 8 ans 2014 taste?
Aggregated from 44 community reviews.
Honeyed, sweet Guadeloupe agricole, better nose than palate Most find a lovely nose that the palate doesn't quite match — sweet, gourmand and easy-drinking, if a touch unbalanced. Fans of drier, punchier agricole should look elsewhere.

Overall a sophisticated rum with a great nose, that maybe has a little bit too kind and soft flavors to get a really high score in my opinion. This rum, a Brut de Fût, from the Carrere Distillery in Guadeloupe is aged for 8 years in Ex-Bourbon barrels before bottled at a rather low cask strength.

Pleasant nose, but too much citrus on the palate. I liked the 10-year-old much better. No finesse. Not worth the price.

This Montebello is totally unbalanced ... The nose is still okay: relatively sweet and fruity, but on the palate: herbal, like young Agricole, then. Woody, spicy and sweet! Nothing really goes together, it tastes more like a blend of different vintages, unfortunately thumbs down 👎🏻

Super sweet agricole. Toffee/tonka bean/dried hay/vanilla pods and biscuit dough. Reminds blind rather of reimonenq. Very delicate, elegant and neither too dry nor too sweet. Also an unusually low alcohol content for such a young brut de fut! Overall, however, really harmonious and dangerously drinkable with enough character to remain exciting.

Quite sweet on the palate, a bit like pear syrup, alongside the herbal notes that I have usually perceived in even younger agricoles. On the palate then clearly roasted aromas, nutmeg, barrel impact. For me, not quite the top Agricole (Montebello) league, compared with the 12-year-old Velier Basseterre, for example.

A good representative of Guadeloupe in cask strength. Very sweet, so pleasant and easy to sip. Personally, it's not the style of Agricole I prefer.

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is a honeyed sugarcane, herbaceous, citrus with a lemon peel, roasted wood, spicy and hay. On aeration, the fruits are dried with raisins, yellow and citrus with some orange peel, wood notes are dark with mocha, chocolate and nuts, as the cane is floral. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is tasty, balanced with sweet and honeyed sugarcane, mineral, vegetal, floral and herbaceous, the roasted wood with caramel, later nuts, cocoa, leather and mocha, spicy with vanilla, anise, the fruits are dried, yellow and citrus. 8,4:The finish is long, dry with sweet, juicy sugarcane, grassy, herbaceous, flowery and earthy, spicy and roasted wood, dried, yellow and green fruits, citrus...

Feels unbalanced. Fresh/vegetal notes fight with notes from the cask without creating a working picture. Starts off rather sweet wirh a bitter turn on the finish.

#5728 28.09.2025 Day two of the Whisky Live 2025, which this year looks better organized/arranged inside. A very nice Brut de Fut with light astringency, wod and nice spices go well with the fruity notes and light caramel. There ae light floral notes in the profile as well.

Nose still quite good, disappointing on the palate.

Tasted at the Whisky & Rum aan Zee festival IJmuiden 2023. Tasted this next to the Bielle 2016. Very different. Creamy. More woody.

Not bad but could also be better. Trying this one after a Bielle 2014 brut de fut wasn't my best choice.

Mmm... erste Nase sehr angenehm. Trotzdem gut trinkbar.
