Isautier L'Apollonie Rhum Vieux Traditionnel 2005

Dried apricot, red grape and roasted oak lead here, with cocoa and a herbal, minty edge that shows up in the empty glass. This is a molasses Isautier from Reunion, aged 16 years at cask strength — surprisingly fresh for its age. Tasters love the nose, but several feel the alcohol isn't fully tucked in and the finish runs a little short.

How does Isautier L'Apollonie Rhum Vieux Traditionnel 2005 taste?

Aggregated from 33 community reviews.

Fruity, woody Reunion cask with a hot edge Well-liked single cask: a lovely apricot-and-cocoa nose over roasted wood. The recurring gripe is that the 55% isn't fully integrated and the finish falls a bit short.

Brings especially in direct comparison with the second Antipodes bottling a present floral perfume note, which is too dominant for me. Apart from that, overall somewhat more restrained than L'Elise, which comes far more pleasing in taste and therefore clearly has the nose in front for me.

Nice isautier single cask but overall not particularly complex and could definitely do with a few % more. Red grape & apricot and some grapefruit, cocoa, vanilla cookies and mint. Aromatically very balanced.

Very good molasses isautier. Not quite at the level of Velier bottlings.

This is an example showing that older isn't always better. This profile is different from the L'Elise and that's a nice surprise. The quality is equally high! Fruity with nice roasted wood and floral notes with some added pastries/marmalade. The empty glass reveals some mint and chocolate.

Magnificent nose. Very good and delicate on the palate, but lacks length for me. Nice product though, easy to drink. Below Antoinette.

Rather fresh despite its age. This is a profile I like. The alcohol could be better integrated. Surprising that it's molasses.

The nose is appealing. Strong wood, pepper. A sensation of grapes. Then a grassy touch. On the palate, the nose is confirmed. Cocoa is added. But the alcohol is too present for me. Too bad. Rather short finish, on wood and cocoa. Edit: first impression confirmed
