La Maison Du Whisky South Pacific Rhum Fidji Flag Series (Collection Antipodes) 2001
Burnt plastic and nail-polish esters hit first, then a whole fruit bowl underneath — pineapple, ripe banana, mango, orange peel — with olive brine, menthol and cedar wood in the mix. Bottled at 62.1%, it's oily, wild and needs air to open up. Tasters call it their reference Fiji, though the woodier, dirtier side means it's not everyone's thing.

Fabuleux, puissant

Nose: rubber and an incredible fruit basket. Pineapple, ripe banana, coconut, pear, mango, passion fruit, manadrine peel, even some saffron, very cool! In the mouth: first a little rubber then passion fruit, sweet pineapple, tangerine, again a little saffron, hardly any alcohol, fantastic! Wonderful finish with tangerines and saffron, a little nutty, honey. Favorite rum! Tasted again at the Fiji Blindtasing, would give it maybe 1-2 tenths less today, but for me it's the best Fiji rum.

Tried at Three Dots and a Dash. Tough to give a full review but really fantastic, industrial, full of spices and fruit.

Geiler Stoff!

Tasted blind and RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. A lively, complex nose of domesticated esters, overripe fruit, orange, spice, marzipan, cedarwood (cigar box) and glue. Cedarwood, pepper and spice dominate, followed by overripe fruit, leather and sea iodine. The finish is long, with apricot and freshness coming through at the very end. The empty glass is very complex, with pastries, varnish, overripe fruit and apricot. A magnificent Fiji rum!

RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Place 1/8 The best Fiji for me to date. 2001 is one of the best vintages in which this bottling ranks right at the top. Powerful through and through with a long elegant finish. Original rating: Grandiose bottling!!!! 😍

Fiji (Fidji) surprises me again and again... here again absolutely positive, the "Antipodes" totally picks me up. A beautifully complex nose with aromas of esters, dirt, fruit, plants and spices. A true explosion of flavors on the palate, oily and creamy, initially heavy sweetness, then fruit, spices and again a plantiness, which continues on the long finish... I need a bottle of this 😇

In the nose typical Fiji note. Very inviting. On the palate then comes a real fireworks. Dirty and wild with power. Crazy! Excellent Fiji rum!

A big surprise from LMDW, this Fijian rum is as aromatic and complex as you could wish for. On the nose, we find the island's funk with notes of olive brine, big medicinal notes (esters, solvents, nail polish), menthol, ripe tropical fruit, floral, vegetal and even empyreumatic notes with a hint of rubber. The nose is intense, rich and powerful, a veritable olfactory bomb. The attack on the palate is just as sumptuous, with lots of fruit (citrus, exotic fruit), fresh floral notes that perfume the palate like a perfume, lots of spices (nutmeg, vanilla, pepper, chili), roasted notes and also custard and caramel. The whole is rich, intense, complex, balanced and unmistakably round. The integration of alcohol approaches perfection. The finish is extremely long, sticking to the palate with its medicinal, empyreumatic, spicy and fruity notes. There's also a hint of caramel and chocolate. Probably one of the most accomplished Fijian rums to date, a veritable behemoth from the Pacific Ocean that invites us to travel.

The first Fiji I've enjoyed in a long time. The typical burnt plastic note is there, as if you had forgotten your toy on the stove next to the pan with the French toast with banana. Aromatically extremely intense and long-lasting. It has something of red berry jelly, vanilla pulp, pineapple jam and burnt caramel. Great cinema! A funny anecdote: there was an elderly lady sitting next to me who asked me if that was my rum that smelled so delicious? She actually only drinks Don Papa and then ordered a glass and thought it was awesome 😅 and will now order it more often!

#4828 13.08.2024 Enjoying some samples. Nose Light wood, medium intense, light rubber, pineapple, anise, varnish, spice, light honey. Palate Oily, fresh, light wood, light roasted, citrus, pineapple, light rubber, faint floral, anise, herbs. Finish Medium long, oily, wood, herbs, light rubber, light citrus, faint chocolate. The empty glass has light nutts, caramel and some licorice.

Outstandingly good Fiji 2001.

Top Fiji. Der Jahrgang gefällt mir einfach sehr gut. Wunderbar komplex, braucht aber etwas Zeit um zu Atmen und richtig zur Geltung zu kommen. Intensiv, vielschichtig mit klassischen Markern für den Jahrgang. Abgang hält lange an.

For me, very close to Isla del Ron Fiji 2001, which for me is still the Fiji reference.

The 2001 vintage from the South Pacific Distillery manages to pick me up time and again. Here, a very own dirty note (burnt plastic) meets deep spice, menthol, wood, fruit esters, a minimum of caramel and plenty of medicinal hints. Must be liked or tolerated, aromatically the whole thing is in any case almost breathtakingly complex and worth consciously engaging in each sip - there is simply much to discover. My rating is certainly also a little dependent on my personal preference for very complex rums; but the breadth of the flavor spectrum is simply impressive.

Grandiose, delicious, complex. Really excellent. So many and varied flavors ... I could spend forever with it. Update: Fiji 2001 Community Tasting - big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprise. For me, the two Artesanal rums, neither of which I finished, brought up the rear. An unpleasant juniper off-note was particularly disturbing (very pronounced in the rx15398, slightly better but still disturbing in the rx7779). Then, for me, the Rum Cask rx479 brought up the rear (i.e. very good / with the right markers), but not as great as the others. Surprisingly, the Isla del Ron, which has had a small reference status in my heart ever since I tried it, ended up in next place for me. But it was overtaken in the blind test by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational. cave Guildive (rx1717). For me, the Cave Guildive is the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I only rated the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) higher ... this one is clearly woodier but also ultra-tasty. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably also stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Verdict: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody. the Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the two that remain far below the level of the other two.

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Well this is undoubtably (and blind) very very nice. Besides the plantation (with its finish) this one was quite a bit ahead of the competition in our line-up. Intense and complex an outstanding bottling among the other high end Fidjies. First place for me. Cheers to Jakob!

Erstes Schnuppern: puuh, was ein krasses Teil!
