Velier Providence Haitian Pure Single Rum 2019
Most tasters walk away pleasantly surprised at what three years pulled off. This is a Haitian cane-juice rum finished in Caroni casks, so you get grassy sugarcane and floral, minty freshness up front, then a light thread of tar, rubber and menthol underneath. At 52% it drinks easy, with several members calling the alcohol nicely integrated. Not deeply complex — but fresh, fruity and moreish.
The community says- Grassy, floral cane

Aggregated from 193 community reviews.
Fresh cane-juice rum with a light Caroni edge Widely liked as a fresh, easy-drinking sipper that punches above its young age. The recurring gripe: a thin body and short-ish finish keep it from greatness.

This was the odd one out and also a huge surprise. Considering the price tag you get a lot for your money. I found out that it needed to rest for at least 15 minutes and at 30 minutes the flavours just come at you. Intense and fruity with nice spices and cane. I really like the floral note from nose to finish and even the empty glass was wonderful after a while. Loking forward to our S.B.S and Silver Seal tasting next week.

Surprising how much caroni influence here after only 3 years gets the upper hand over the Haiti rum! Beautiful thing! Great complexity. Slightly acidic fruity, plus some wood, burnt rubber, menthol and dark bitter chocolate and charcoal with burnt rosemary. Overall, however, it could still have a little more power to me and has a slightly too short finish. In particular, I find just under 100 € for a 3y young rum from Haiti (caroni barrel or not) a bit excessive...
Review by Jakob
Very drinkable. Pleasant sweetness of flambé fruits and cinnamon sugar, lots of floral notes, subtle spices, light medicinal notes, probably from the Caroni barrel. Really tasty and balanced, for an even higher rating it would still need more depth.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A Haitian rum with an atypical profile. We feel at first the woody and spicy aromas, then notes of candied fruits and sugar cane before a very long floral and vegetal salvo on medicinal and grassy notes. The influence of the Caroni cask is light but smoky aromas are also present. An original profile that goes in all directions. The palate concentrates once again the spicy, spicy and woody notes as well as the vegetal flavors of the sugar cane. We also discern notes of tobacco, coffee and nuts. The finish is quite long and reminds us of Caroni with its smoky, almost terpenic notes, as well as rubber. We also find the menthol which brings, with the sugar cane, a lot of freshness. Spices, herbs, wood and dried fruits finalize the aromatic bouquet.a nice first try for this young distillery, which takes advantage of the barrel especially on the finish. The quality / price ratio remains however questionable for a 3 years old rum.
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
So I can not quite understand the hype. Me too little Clairin character, perhaps by the Caroni barrel. But if I would at least taste the barrel only at all somehow out ... Unfortunately, absolute Fehlanzeige.Bin probably yet a peasant palate. 🤣🙈 And stay with my honest Clairins from Casimir. 😋😉
Review by Galli33
WoW 🤤 I found this cool bottling in my fovorite bar in Wroclaw. A nice rum from Providence with a cool Caroni finish. In my opinion, both harmonizes excellently together and the Caroni barrel does not overtune the main character of the rum. I have to buy a bottle for myself.
Review by Leo Krüper
Has little to do with young wild Clairin. Rather like a very young Caroni without edges and corners.I like very well with longer storage is here certainly much more air to the top.In the 2nd tasting clearly immature and inconsistent. Devaluation to 80 points.
Review by Christian Rudt
Seems still a bit immature and I'm not sure if the Caroni barrel was the last word here. Potential is definitely there. I liked the first released white rum of this young distillery. Liked the floral nose and fruity hints here. With nice banana on the palate and an interesting mix on the finish. The barrel notes can be recognized make for me the rum but not better, here is certainly potential for more.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
Aging for 3 years leaves on the one hand the fruity and vegetal note of the crystalline bleau cane and on the other takes a spicy and medicinal part derived from the caroni cask, which, however, does not give much aromaticity to the product!

A young savage. I like it quite well.
Review by Rodolphe
I really have to stop the clairins and rums from Haiti aged at velier with the marketing that goes with it... (Caroni cask, Muller stills, etc.). It's not really a style I like but I like them white though. This one is vegetal and spicy, super spicy in the mouth even. Very little complexity. Glad I tasted it but it confirms that these are really bottles I won't buy.
Review by Jarek
Addendum: during the tasting, I found the influence of the Caroni cask still quite weak. But after a while, you can smell it very clearly in an empty glass.

Whisky Live 2023, session dégustation rapide ! Top !
Review by Agricoler
Very great round nose and nice taste. Very herbal and woody bitter finish. The Caroni influence is very subtle and makes the product very round. I really like it, as it makes for a good daily sipper that also scores with complexity.
Review by Thunderbird
With Clairin has for me not really what to do... I would rather locate it as a light entry towards Caroni, which I actually like. For me, the rum is somehow not coherent, too bad

Ganz guter Rum.
Review by Johannes
I cannot taste Caroni here. I miss the typical fruity Haitian note. Perhaps the barrel has hidden the fruity tones.
Review by BTHHo 🥃
Thick and creamy mouthfeel, with notes of tobacco, burnt banana, flowers and warm spices.
Review by Boletus
Review by SaibotZtar
Fruity floral with a little leather and rubber. One clearly notices the young age. interesting drop that can still increase with time.
Review by Jan Lu
Review by Righrum
After a few drams I raise my evaluation of a few points. A good rum, great texture and pleasant profile.
Review by Mike H.
The recent Haitian rums that hit the market are definitely not for me. All are too green/floral to my taste. It would be interesting though to taste these with a little more age as they are all quite young.
Review by zabo
Edit: nochmal in aller Ruhe verkostet.
Review by Rare Akuma
The nose is nice and subtle, yet quite raw revealing the short age of this product. The barrel has had its influence though, leaving a woody and reasonably spicy mark. There’s saturated wood, followed by raw sugarcane, then vanillabean, peppermill and a light touch of ginger and licorice. It’s foremost flowery with hints of orange mint. Barely any room left for fruits, but there is pineapple juice and raw rhubarb to pick up. With a little imagination maybe even some petrol, or maybe that’s just me. Silky on the tongue and sweeter than expected. Still raw, young and perhaps a little volatile as a result. Mind you, the alcohol is integrated perfectly. Very little fruits. Flowers and spices take the spotlight once again, but the latter are less intense than on the nose. In fact, it has a beautiful, mellow integration as far as these flavours go. The finish is longer than expected, but still on the edge of short-to-medium. Sweet and vegetal with red rhubarb and sugarcane notes.

Příjemná květinová vůně, kde vás ty květiny provázi celým rumovým zážitkem od vůně po závěr. Ve vůni ještě travnaté tóny, a třtina. Po napití jemné květiny, s trochou koření a sladkosti, přejdou do středně dlouhého a velmi připjemného závěru. Krásně kntegrovaný alkohol.
Review by Benoit Mahe
A rather successful rum despite its young age. It is close to an agricultural, it is not the ardor of a Clairin for example. I can't wait to see what this rum would give with an older ageing!
Review by Schnapsschuesse

Fruity, floral, exciting both on the nose and on the palate. Price unfortunately not so attractive, somewhere you have to cut back.
Review by Alex1981
Really interesting profile and great to try compared to the unaged version. The typical agricole notes get pushed to the background by the strong cask influence, resulting in a very balanced outcome that is easy to drink. Really enjoyable!

Not particularly complex but very tasty.
Review by Djehey

Review by Buddudharma

Solid fresh agricole, no brutality, just a nice rum with plants and sugar cane.

Review by Basti
Not a bad rum, but it's a little too much on the floral side for me.

Surprisingly good even though the short time in the cask
Review by Richard Krupa
Fruit, flowers, slightly rubbery. I compared it with the golden Papalino and it tastes a little better. The Providence is smoother and not so dirty.
Review by GigiMartini
Review by Sebastiaan Linssen
A very good rum. A really distinctive sugar cane juice rum that is very, very tasteful. The only aspect that limits me from rating it excellent is the not so well integrated alcohol. I've had rums with an higher ABV that had a lesser alcohol burn. All in all a very good rum that should be part of my standard equipment.
Review by Henry Davies
Not a bad sipper, somewhat one dimensional although the Caroni cask influence really shines through. Nose brings menthol and some vegetal notes with a light caramel. Mouth is light with vanilla, some star anise and licorice. Finish is short with more Caroni elements, tar and some sticky menthol and herbs. Below the 2020 and 2021 edition for me, decent drop for the price
