Clarendon Rum Sponge Collection Antipodes 2007
Pineapple and green apple lead, with menthol, a pastry-caramel note and a vegetal, farmy edge that marks it as 2007 Clarendon. At 63% the alcohol is the sticking point: some found it well enough integrated to carry the fruit, others called it biting and chemical-orange even after an hour open. Estery, dry, and clearly Jamaican pot still.

Great clarendon. Jamaican fruit and funk with the vegetal and farmy frame of clarendon. A very very nice selection. We can regret the price which is rather high but well, the Brexit also passed by...

Solid Clarendon with all ingredients of a great Jamaican. Punchy abv, that is well enough integrated to carry lots of fruits and estery notes. Not overly complex but solid rum.

Impressive profile, reminiscent of the 1995 EMBs - but here in a slightly more youthful guise. Plenty of fresh fruit, menthol, herbal notes of tea, subtle sweetness. Very good.

31.12.2022 Our yearly New Year party where we try new rums mixed with the personal bests. Notes Light to medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light roasted wood, faint citrus, faint mint, light floral. Palate Light oily, light wood, fresh, fruits, warm, light citrus, light floral, light orange, faint mint, faint licorice. Finish Medium long, light wood, light ginger, light citrus, banana, faint medicinal, light chocolate.

After two Clarendons of the same vintage over the weekend, I thought I'd open this sample while the memory is fresh enough for a comparison. Nose and palate typical 2007 Clarendon with apple notes. After a while a nice pastry and caramel note comes in. Not bad, but not outstanding either.

Die Nase ist sehr schön fruchtig, frisch mit einem Hauch Vanille, am Gaumen dann die klassischen würzigen Holzaromen, umgeben von Menthol, Piment und Lakritz, der Abbang ist mittellang und eher auf der bitteren Seite. Es ist ein guter Clarendon, aber eine Flasche würde ich mir nicht davon holen

Le nez est d'abord chargé en esters. La banane et surtout l'ananas prennent vite le pas, accompagnés par un cote pâtissier et boisé. En bouche, on retrouve les marqueurs du nez. L'alcool est d'abord mordant puis s'adoucit avec un petit caramel qui arrondit le tout. Finale un peu plus amère et boisée mais sans excès.

Nose akin to other 2007s with tropical fruits, green apples adding menthol with some time in the glas. Very nice. Very distinct MM on the palate as well. I do miss some complexity, however. Nose was more promising than the delivery you get from sipping. All in all a very solid bottling, but not top of the range MM(W) in my book.

First impression: a bit an oily/fatty structure with some soapiness (koriander?) in the profile. Not yet sure if it’s really my kind of Clarendon.

The nose is decent but has an almost chemical orange odour that made me fear the worst. The mouth is overpowered by this orange flavour, almost chemical which reminds me a little of Don Papa. On top of that the alcohol is very badly integrated. I was really expecting more from this 😬

Sehr anstrengend zu trinken. Alkoholisch, stechend, extrem trocken wie Kreide, Menthol Mundspülung, vergorenes Obst... nach über 2h Atemzeit kommt eine leichte Karamell note dazu. 2007 Clarendon scheint einfach nicht mein Vintage zu sein...

Für mich leider die Enttäuschung des Abends. Die Nase lädt noch mit fruchtig würzigen Noten ein, am Gaumen dann für mich einfach nur beißend alkoholisch, auch nach über einer Std. im Glas. Habe mir hier deutlich mehr erhofft.
