Valinch & Mallet Hampden HD - „Collection Antipodes“ DOK 2009
The surprise here is how tame the color and wood are for 13 years in cask — this stays pale, with barely any oak. What you get instead is full DOK: glue, nail polish, tar, overripe banana and grilled pineapple, plus a faint smoky note in the finish. At 57.5% the alcohol sits shockingly well hidden. Several tasters find the palate a step behind the nose.

How does Valinch & Mallet Hampden HD - „Collection Antipodes“ DOK 2009 taste?
Aggregated from 61 community reviews.
Funky pale DOK, big nose, drier palate Loved as a proper funky DOK — huge ester nose, well-buried alcohol. Common gripes: the palate runs drier and more acidic than the nose promises, and it isn't cheap.

Excellent DOK!

Great DOK ! Alcohol very well integrated. Hardly noticeable in the nose, really cool! Fruity(pineapple, papaya,)with nen concentrated charge ester. Slight wood influence .... becomes significantly more in the finish and there he falls for me also something . PLV is mMn not particularly good .... what makes the rum but not worse.

Very nice DOK. But not outstanding. PLV is unfortunately not suitable at all. TRC, LOM, RC, CDI I find all a tad better. Great rum without question, but 235€ for a 0.7 liter V&M DOK from 2009 is too much. Update: must go up another point after tasting again

Blind DOK Tasting - 4th place. It’s a solid DOK, where everything from the start to the finish seems well balanced and round, without delivering something outstanding (against the competitors 😏🫨🤤)..

More balanced and „darker“ profile. Less vibrant. Very nice DOK nevertheless!

This is a really nice DOK. Complex and funky with very good integration of the ABV. The wood is very light but the funk and esters are there. Very happy that I bought a bottle.

Funky nose with grilled pineapple and fermented banana. Nice complex flavor with some candied fruit. Finish adds some smokiness to the grilled pineapple. Alcohol is extremely well integrated. Similar to the RCPS DOK from the vintage, despite the storage period, virtually no wood, just Hampden fruit served on esters.

This is my 2nd doc that I taste. I just tasted it together with the RumClub bottling and find the Rumclub bottling a little fruity which I personally like better. In any case, very funky, which I think is great. Addendum: Image added.

Once again a class Hampden DOK! Alcohol is super integrated, it comes with the classic funk, but still with a good drinkable mildness!

Rather on the astringent side. Nevertheless, a DOK that is really fun!

A very nice albeit expensive DOK. Not worth a bottle purchase at this price.

Bottle 41/304. Very good, but I’ve tasted better DOK expressions. SDR23

Favourite rum at whisky live paris. Far better than the velier IMO

Nose mega 92/93 points, super funky and fruity. Banana, ester, glue, pineapple. In the mouth much weaker, hardly complexity and depth, there you can not compensate for the missing years of maturation just. But exciting is the light smoke note in the finish (charred pineapple) - could smoke whiskey nerds certainly like. Nice young hop, but not yet a great cinema.
Review by Mentalo

Nose: big glue/tar comes straight to our nostrils! Exotic fruits, typical of Hampden, then confirm where we are... in case we had any doubts. Pineapple, very ripe banana... complete this intense but not aggressive nose. Palate: This is clearly a Hampden, with its exotic fruits, tire and olives. The 57.5% is greedy and perfectly integrated! A long, interminable finish of smoky oak/medicinal notes means you can enjoy this nectar for a long time to come. Wahooo, it's so good!
