Habitation Velier Long Pond STC❤️E 2019
"Good Long Pond, but not my favorite one" sums up the split. At 60% and only three years in tropical climate, this STC♥E is raw and unbridled: overripe pineapple, banana, model glue and solvent up front, with vanilla and young oak underneath. Give it 30 minutes and the lime-polish blows off to reveal the fruit. Several tasters feel it needed more barrel time.

A rather harsh rum when the sample is opened, it takes a few hours, but then synthetic varnish and fruit galore on the nose. Apple, pineapple, overripe banana. After a long wait, the palate is rather soft, the varnish fortunately more discreet, giving way to fruit and a vegetal note (lime blossom). The finish is long and fruity, with yellow and tropical fruits. I love it! A fine rum with balance and elegance on the palate and finish, but you have to be patient and disregard the first nose. It probably lacks age, but I definitely like Long Pond.

So really I can not get anything out of this StCE, although I am actually a fan of this Mark!In the nose still relatively pleasant and wild, he loses on the palate clearly. There it is relatively flat and in the end an unexpected spiciness prevails, the finish is woody and herbal. After some time in the glass he becomes minmal better
Review by DomM
Raw and intense. Nice basket of tropical fruits and notes of honey. Don’t let yourself be fooled by the sort aging. Jamaican climate did do quite a lot to this Long Pond. The aftertastes is very long - delivering the ester and fruity notes you can expect from an unaged STCE. Summary: Very nice young expression, adding some cask flavors to the unaged profile. Obviously not a long aged easy sipper, though.
Review by Dr.Django
Damn! I actually thought I had an LP HV 2005 in my glass! Unfortunately, the label is the wrong one on the sample. That was a nasty surprise =D This Long Pond is well stocked with esters and fruit. An intense rum in which the alcohol becomes sweet and spicy in the finish. A young, tasty LP.
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
This Long Pond is very young and you notice that in every facet. Compared to the great NRJ/Velier STC♥️E, this is particularly clear - the woody spices, which there provide for a fantastic integration of the wild fruit, are almost completely absent here. In consequence, the HV is characterized by an immature acidity, which rather reminds ah vinegar, the sweet aromas are still very light, like meringue and a quite present marzipan note. That of course abundant tropical fruit. Except for some olive, the LP typical vegetal flavors are almost completely absent. In the mouth it is then surprisingly round and here also vanilla and caramel from the wood appear. We also find again the estry acetic acid, the overripe fruits from the nose. While this acidity often becomes penetrating and unpleasant in other rums, here it is a highlight of the wild, young profile. In the finish, as is often the case with young high ester rums, smoky curry leaves are added, again showing a new herbal facet. Overall, a beautiful, wild Long Pond, which also makes a good figure in the Mai Tai.

Muscular and complex taste with both fruity and medicinal notes. What's not to like 😎
Review by SaibotZtar
This very young Long Pond is surprising. Great fruity notes with a fresh floral note. Banana and candy predominate for me. Great mixer ala Mai Tai. I like it very much. My conclusion after several drinks: As a blend in a Mai Tai with a Hampden or Clarendon it works best for me.

Despite de young age I like him very much. STC🖤E profile comes through well
Review by Mike H.
Decent nose but fails to deliver in the mouth. All the classic flavor notes are present but they are light and flat. It was a mistake to bottle this rum so young and a few more years in the barrel would have resulted in something far better.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
Few expectations for so few years of aging, but so many positive responses throughout the tasting! A bottle for those who want to approach this magnificent distillery for the first time! Long pond never disappoints me!
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Clearly high ester Jamaica from the smell. Overripe fermented pineapplejuice galore. Bring the funk. Taste: lots of berries on top of the pineapple. Young wood. Very juicy. A somewhat weird musty/dryness. A hint of grass/vegetables. Something phenolic in the background. Interesting Long Pond. Lots of taste, complex yet young but not too young. Velier is definitely king in picking those casks.

Good hints, but overall too unround and too many spicy notes for me.

8,5:On the nose, we get lemon polish, the rum is earthy, estery, there is brine, some coconut, honey, caramelized pastries, is spicy with vanilla, sweet spices, roasted cocoa, chocolate, lot s of fermented tropical fruits as pineapple, apricot, overripe banana, guava and vegetal with jasmin.Aeration brings out more roasted and woody notes, bourbon touch with juicy peaches. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is overwhelmingly covered with overripe tropical fruits, lemon polish and sweet spices. Then comes a bit bitter brine, perhaps anise, minty notes, again overripe fruits as pineapple, ripe mango, tasty baked banana and pastry, some dryness, coconut, chocolate, some wood later, roasted and medicinal notes with a slight earthy peat.Well, I find all rum spectre very tasty and complex. 8,4:The finish is medium length, with a touch of sour, dry lemon zest, again with brine, coconut, vanilla, cocoa, honey, black tea, camphor, sugar cane, metallic note and some woodiness. Edit:23.2.26

For just 3y old surprisingly round but at the same time strangely much wood influence for such a short aging time. Overall, however, not really coherent.

Review by TheRhumhoe
A rather young Long Pond, which still lacks some maturity to gain in complexity and aromas. On the nose, we perceive tropical fruits, citrus, some notes of esters and solvents, spices and wood, but everything is relatively discreet and dissipates quickly. The same observation is made on the palate, despite the few spicy and earthy notes that open other aromatic perspectives, the whole lacks character. Although the alcohol is well integrated, the whole is too flat. The finish is slightly more floral, but again remains rather ephemeral. A few years of aging would have allowed the rum to gain in flavor and intensity.
Review by Serge
I like the STCE Mark both unaged and nicely tropically aged. This one is in between the two and therefore I like it very very much. Clearly better than I had expected.
Review by Timo Groeger
And we continue to climb up the rating scale. We have a really good long pond here. The banana clearly stands out from the tropical fruits. Otherwise, we have plenty of esters as usual, but also solvents.

2nd day of GRF 2025. This rum requires time to sip in the glass, maybe longer than usual. On the nose: First notes are typical punchy estery Jamaican rum notes. After some time in the glass, Ester notes tone down and acidic apple notes apear to dominate the profile. Good amount of sweetness from the fruits. Woody notes in the background. Impressive for a young Jamaican rum. Taste: Intense body. Esters and overripe flavours upfront. Fruity, dry. Spice notes. Anise and earthy notes in the end. Finish: Quite dry and warm. At the end there are notes of earthy, eucalyptus kind of notes. Medium-long finish. Ok, this rum requires a lot of time to open up and maybe not the best time and place to review it in the festival. If i ever have the time to do review after this has been sitting in the glass for 2 hours?, i will update this review.

08.03.2024 Tasting with Romhatten. Retasting and I still like it a lot. ----------------------- Surprisingly fresh and intense at the same time. Lots of fruits and light spices and wood. A very nice sipe indeed and I think the price matches what you get. Bought a bottle after sampling it 😊

Review by Vincent D
I love this no-nonsense Long Pond profile. It's powerful, on every level. Esters, overripe fruit. Rather linear in the sense that the palate confirms the sensations brought by the nose, but pleasant for those who like this profile.
Review by MarcT
Had this in a comparative tasting, to restore my faith into Clarendon and Long Pond, after having a really disappointing tasting recently. This one is raw, has power and intensity. It does give lots of flavours, and while one notices the Young age, it is quite balanced. I also noticed quite a lot wood influence. It does, however, require some added water to take some of the alcoholic sharpness. Thanks to Alex Kunath for this nice sample.
Review by Boletus

Nice bottle, juice may be a bit young!
Review by Lukas Jäger
Review by Christian Rudt
Three years of tropical maturation have already left their mark here. I find it quite interesting on the palate with light tea notes. Overall, however, I find it lacks the intensity of flavor that I remember much more strongly in the s.b.s. aged for two years in continental conditions.

I’ve been looking forward to tasting this sample for a while now, so let’s see how it goes. After pouring it presented itself raw, metallic and heavy on minerals. It took more than 30 minutes to really open. Intensely fruity on the nose. Starts off sweet with yellow banana and plantains, mixed black- and raspberries. And then quickly develops into sour fruits with green apple slices, fresh green kiwi and lime juice. An undertone of molasses, but the sweetness is almost candy-ish, like the sugared fruit-shaped sweets you buy at a convenience store. There’s some oak and a surprising amount of vanilla. The sweet-sour balance is flanked by copper and esters, a touch of clove, flowers and mint. Lovely experience. In the mouth it’s young and unbridled. More of the same complex fruit salad, however the lime note with the active esters does make it quite astringent. The candy is dropped and spices are kicked into second gear with peppers and slight anise in the back. Accents of jasmine tea. Tropical aging did quite the trick. Finishes short with fruity candy, some lingering esters and a flower or two. I get why some people would not like a profile as raw as this. The nose is clearly superior to the taste. But I personally like something untamed once in a while. For me, price/quality is very high at release.

Was ein geniales Teil.

Very intensely fruity on the nose, with a few spices on the palate. It's quite nice, but for regular enjoyment it could perhaps have stayed a little longer in the barrel to capture and round off the brute intensity. It will certainly do well in Mai Tai, but it's above my price range.
Review by Martin Spooner
Spicy, caramel nose slightly candied I would say. A nice sweet taste at the beginning which then turns into vanilla. Nice ester notes that give a pleasant finish. Very tasty.
Review by Mentalo
Jung & wild.
Review by Benoit Mahe
Review by BnBrt
A good Jamaican, the palate more interesting than the nose for me, perhaps it deserves to open up more? Raw nose, glue. First kiss a little aggressive, then more pastry-like in length. On the palate, ripe acid fruit (pineapple, lemon), pleasant length but a little short, rather pastry-like.
Review by Johnny Rumcask
Too young, too inconsequential, slight bitter note out back. Honey, some yellow fruit. Too expensive to mix, too young to enjoy. For me again a rum of the category "without raison d'être".

Habitation Velier – Long Pond STCE 2019 (60%) This rum was distilled in 2019 at the Jamaican Long Pond distillery. It has an ester content of 497.6 g/hlap, corresponding to the STC♥E mark (Simon Thompson Cambridge Estate), a specific recipe from the Cambridge distillery, named after the master distiller, now closed (shut down in 1947). After 3 years of aging in a tropical climate, it was bottled for the Habitation Velier range, with an angel's share exceeding 22%. 🔸 Nose: a real liquid treat, very inviting. 🔸 Palate: A slightly nutty profile, mixed with exotic fruit notes and, at times, old cheese. It’s raw, intense, with a nice length. The palate reveals its young age. The attack is a bit too harsh, lacking the roundness found in longer-aged rums. 👉 It does the job, but nothing more. I won’t shed a tear if it disappears. Have a great weekend, friends!

1st rather unpleasant nose of burnt plastic...model glue, not very flattering! After aeration, a little licorice, very pleasant attack on the palate, surprising contrast, good balance of fresh pineapple, lime blossom, honey, greedy! Surprising, so drink it without smelling it!
Review by Pierangelo Pianta
Young bottling , little harmony, power and alcohol, slight fruity hints, sweet woody finish
Review by Michal S
Uncomplicated young Jamaica - overripe tropical fruits, esters and a little something extra. A little short of the best, but for the purchase price, why not.
Review by Vidaa Wz
The nose is very seductive, with ripe yellow tropical fruits and hints of vanilla and even unctuous honey, The palate, on the other hand, lacks a little gourmandise, the Esters and the parcel of make themselves felt, a fine feat a long way below its little brother from 2005.

08/02/25: Tasted alongside 6 other Long Ponds. This one needs time in the glass to rest and relax. The first nose was closed but this improved over time. The palate didn't convince me. The youth is noticeable. I had high hopes but it was rather disappointing for me.

Greedy varnish with the beginnings of depth, but young and spirited.
Review by Matej
The aroma of this rum is fruity, spicy and, in my opinion, pleasantly sweet (I smell cocoa and it reminds me of quality pralines). On the other hand, the taste is reminiscent of Jamaican rums (funky) underlined with fruity and spicy flavors. I also noticed technical flavor with lot of dryeness Despite its age, a very good and interesting rum, in aroma it is sweeter rum but after you taste it, it is completly different rum. 2 rums in 1 bottle.
Review by Valentin M
A relatively young Long Pond with a lively character. The nose is very solvent-oriented, which unfortunately dominates somewhat in my opinion. The palate, on the other hand, is quite different from the nose, being much more mellow than expected, with tropical fruits more present than on the nose.

For a young tropically aged long pond this really set a new bar. It really has nice balance, power and that typical lkbg pond fruity goodness that is not buttery. Really good and really lovely. Specifically at that price point
