Habitation Velier Monymusk Jamaica Single Rum MMW 2015
Most people sip this one neat, though a few swear it also shines in cocktails. Expect tropical fruit, glue, wood and warm spice, with an oddly savory streak — roasted nuts, bacon, even a briny umami edge. The 59% is beautifully tucked away for its strength. Young for a Monymusk, so the wood stays light and the finish runs short.

Beautifull nose with roasted nuts and tropical fruits. In taste your typical herbal Monymusk profile. I get that this is not for everyone, but I like it. I think I need a bottle of this. Unfortunately the finish is rather short, but nevertheless a nice sipper.

Returning over this one a year later, I lower a lot my review, which was very positive at the time, now it's much lesser. The best mmw monymusk, but not that good. The nose is a bit too closed, vanilla and some spices with tropical fruit in the background. A medical/gluey note is overall present and overwhelming. Drinking shows a bit of wood and a lot of tropical fruits.
Review by DomM
Starts off with intense notes of roasted nuts and beacon, which evolves into tropical fruits and MM herbal notes after some time. On the palate it is very elegant and way less punchy than expected. Feels almost „light“. Nevertheless very nice one combining roasted notes with a basked of tropical fruits and spices.
Review by Thunderbird
A very good classic MM. It reminds me strongly of the 2010 from HV!Too bad I was too late! Thanks to Artur for the sample15.04.23:Tasted today in direct comparison to the 2010 EMB (yes, is not quite fair, because different Marks)The EMB is clearly more present and complex, but the MMW is more harmonious and relaxed to drink. Overall, a great duo (thanks to Mike for the bottle).

#4696 07.04.2024 Relaxing with a few samples. Nose Intense, light wood, faint smoke, banana, overripe, light herbs, faint medicinal. Palate Intense, warm, fruity, light iodine, plum, wood, tannins, clove, light herbs, light coffee. Finish Very long and warm, light cherry, wood, tannins, light mint, cinnamon. This one was such a punch that I tried to add a bit of water after which it changed completely. Far more notes are released with a few drops of water.
Review by Serge
Very tasty tropical ripened MMW that is nice and refreshing. With unusual tropical fruits like guava, starfruit and kedongdong (Spondias dulcis) ... plus vanilla, spice, some bacon and some sherbet and crushed dextrose. Absolutely recommended at the release price.
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
Have the sample now for the third time in the glass, with the intention of writing a tasting note. Now it is empty, now it must be. In all three tastings I perceived him a little different. The first time very most fruity, then always a little more herbal. In this tasting, right after the Blackadder MMW it seems to me like a rounder version of that one. The fruits are more yellow and less tropical, dle menthol note is missing, this olive and herbal note is very similar. In the mouth the HV is much softer and balanced it, not necessarily deeper. Pleases me well, without completely knocking me off my feet.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A balanced Monymusk that is true to its traditions. You can feel the fruit notes, accompanied by floral, wood and spice notes, with the caramel and fermentation scents lingering. The attack on the palate is controlled, with floral and earthy (roots) notes intermingling with fruit, wood, spice and light ester notes. The whole is well structured and the alcohol well integrated. The finish is more tannic, phenolic and spicy but keeps the fruity frame. A very conventional rum without extravagance, but still solid and well made.
Review by Rodolphe
Very good representative of monymusk little aged but with a nice personality. It's Jamaican style, pleasant, but not so easy. I like it a lot, and the more it goes, the more I like clarendons/monymusk but I find that on this distillery, the tropical maturation has its importance.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
Although in my opinion monymusk gives its best with long aging I have to say that I really like this profile!Less of the roasted and barrel part and more of the ripe fruit and herbs! For me it is really promoted!
Review by Adrian Wahl
Very solid monymusk. Despite the young age nice aroma. Who likes the profile will have much pleasure here. I do not need a bottle of it, but nice to have tasted him.
Review by zabo
At the Community Tasting Nuremberg I was deeply introduced to the world of Clarendon and have learned to love it. Whereby for me the differences between 7 different bottlings were rather small. I liked all of them. Probably it was more because of the quantity why I could not really distinguish anything. Will all again in peace individually Nachverkosten.
Review by Tim
A well-balanced Jamaican that has definitely seen enough ageing to complement the ester bomb with further aromas. The caramel and chocolate notes, as well as direct aromas from storage such as wood and vanilla, are positive. It is also spicy, beautifully floral and has fruity mango associations.
Review by SaibotZtar
Delicious young MM .... Citrus , cherry , mango .... slight sweetness . Floral extracts nose gets much better again after 20min. Somewhat reminiscent of cherry floral scent.
Review by Timo Groeger
Also an excellent rum. Really a beautiful nose. Vanilla, wood, caramel. Very nice. Also quite spicy and woody. Then a slight caramel note on the palate too. Also spicy and woody. Very full-bodied. Delicious.
Review by alex
Superbe.
Review by Jacques etdom
On the nose, fruit, floral, medicinal, a hint of vanilla, grassy, rather metallic (a bit like a dying port) and something beastly, which I can't describe. The palate confirms the nose. Too bad for the metallic side, which I don't appreciate. The typical Clarendon fruitiness is light and lingers on the finish. Almost something comparable to grain alcohol with an oxidative edge. Relatively short finish. It's not bad, but it's not the clarendon I love. I was quite taken aback by this rum.
Review by Nils123
Review by Skyfly
Review by Christian Rudt
The attack: Nose nice with tropical fruits and full bacony. Very pleasant 👍 First drop on the palate. I perceive herbs and think of forests and meadows. As expected, tropical fruits are omnipresent. After a short time in the glass, I find the finish clearly too bitter and overall the alcohol bites a little too much here.
Review by Mentalo
Tropical fruits, roasted notes, spices, citrus fruits. Alcohol is well integrated. Beautiful bottling from the Habitation Velier range, even if I like the EMB bottling better. Not directly comparable, but the EMBs bring more depth and complexity.
Review by Jarek
Beautiful fruity nose. Continues on the palate, but then something herbal and floral comes in, herbs and a bit of mint. Not a revelation, but I actually quite like it. The almost 60% also suits the rum quite well.
Review by kondgab
Tasted at Rum Depot, Berlin Nose: Bursting with tropical fruits, complemented by vanilla, woody undertones, caramel, and a hint of spice. Palate: A rich blend of tropical fruits, pronounced woodiness, warming spices, overripe fruit notes, caramel, and a touch of mint. Finish: Dry and tannic, with lingering tropical fruits, estery notes, spice, and a persistent woody character
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Surprisingly round monymusk for the young age. Alcohol top integrated, nice combination of raisin and other dried fruits, something nutty and salty like a semi-dry amontillado sherry with a nice spice and a nice fruitiness without the wood dominates. Am curious whether there will soon be a few years older ...
Review by Banana Joe
Review by Beach-and-Rum 🏖️🌴
A very solid monymusk. Nicely balanced without being overpowering. I usually use it for cocktails, but it's also really delicious on its own. A good introduction to the world of Jamaicans. :)
Review by Filip Šikula
once again it is confirmed that what he chooses to fulfill the habitation velier is worth it. I can already smell the wildness of the jamaica, the fruit and the ester charge in the aroma. The perfectly integrated alcohol and the long, full finish come as no surprise either.

--- English This rum originates from Jamaica and is a product of the renowned Monymusk distillery under the Habitation Velier edition. The nose features a blend of vanilla, spices, glue, woody notes, and oak, with an unusual hint of smoked bacon. The palate delivers woody and dry tones interwoven with overripe tropical fruits, coffee, spices, and a subtle minty finish. This rum stands out for its complex and bold character, making it a great choice for enthusiasts of intense rums. Wonderful dialy sipper!
Review by Volkmar Weber
Review by Buddudharma
Nice easy sipper, with fruit and esters. Very pleasant to drink.
Review by Florent Apl
On the nose, it's glue, tropical fruits like pineapple, and caramel sweetness. It's rather young but you can find some wood notes. On the tongue, main aromas are caramel and glue, with a faint trace if fruits. It's young but there is wood here, especially if I compare it side by side with the long pond stce 3 years. Alcohol integration is really good, you wouldn't tell it's 59%. With the addition of water, fruits are more pronounced and caramel is pushed to the back. Finale is medium long, it's a bit bitter. Overall it's a decent rum, not incredibly complex though. I don't think it's worth the price at which you can find it on secondary market, but it's enjoyable.
Review by Roman Lelek
The color - looks like honey The nose - sweet overripe fruits, vanilla, little bit of spices and wood The taste - well balanced - I really enjoy it - the alcohol 58% is fully integrated to the taste - from sweet, vanilla, honey notes to woody and fruity tones and sometimes I feel glue, minty, earthy tones too - complex. The aftertaste is rather short to middle. Interesting thing - it feels light..like you don’t drink liquid, but just the taste.

Review by Nika
Raspberries are my favourite fruits. And they are extremly loud in scent here. There is glue as well, some flowers and earth vibe around it. 8,8 for the raspberries :) I was just vibing while degustating this one… nice
Review by M@xiM
Aroma: sweet woody tobacco spicy aroma, heavy, very dense and complex fruity. Taste: powerful sweet and sour, lots of dried fruits and citrus, but a little harsh. But after the sharpness comes a very cool powerful dense Jamaican fruity aftertaste.

First Monymusk at Queen Mary in Chicago, so a bit hard to do real tasting notes. But damn this is great! It’s got an industrial-overripe fruit-yogurt vibe that I love.

An absolutely incredible liquid. Great to sip but plays amazingly well and cocktails. The alcohol is, I feel, perfectly managed. This is a bottle that I have gone back to again and again.

Weird Monymusk but oh so much fun. A flavour pack of salty briny nutty surprises. I like it! Not your normal Monymusk

Good Jamaica, but nothing spectacular. Tropical fruits, wood, spices.

A great drop, but it is way too dry for my liking.
