Hampden Great House (Distillery Edition 2022)
Most people rate this well but agree it's the lighter, fruitier, younger-feeling Great House — not the strongest in the series. Expect overripe pineapple and banana, the classic Hampden glue and nail-polish esters, then a dry, slightly woody finish. Several tasters call it an everyday sipper; a couple find it thin or a touch too acidic. The 55% is remarkably well integrated.
The community says- Overripe tropical fruit
- Great ABV integration
- But: Lighter than predecessors

Review by Boletus
An exceptionally successful composition that presents the typical Hampden markers in a smooth and very easy-to-drink style. I especially like the finish, where the tropical fruits enriched with strawberries slowly fade away to make room for a lasting spiciness with notes of licorice, anise, cinnamon, and leather.

Very nice fruit forwards nose with baked banana, pineapple and a basket of other tropical fruits. Same on the palate: quite some fruits and a little less pronounced dark notes. The HGML component makes this one shine compared to the other bottlings.

Very coherent Hampden. Makes really fun!
Review by Frank
26% LFCH 2011 74% HGML 2019 In direct comparison with '19, '20 and '21: the most fermented and almost vegatable on the nose; the darkest together with the '20; with approx. 800 g/hL the most esters and the sweetest on the palate of all. Quite different from all three predecessors! Nose: as already mentioned, very fermented and veggy, almost artichoke-like, which is clearly due to the high proportion of very young high-ester HGML. Besides the esters, there's a lot of vinegar, but covered by honey. Pineapple is just as absent here as banana. 79 Palate: very sweet attack with plenty of esters and pineapple. Has a creamy effect. The sweetness now moves towards liquorice, with a mix of vanilla and umami. Toffee is added at the end. 83 I like it better on the palate than on the nose. Hearing esters suits the GH well.
Review by SaibotZtar
Fruity, floral and somewhat bitter that describes the GH22 probably quite well. After a few minutes in the glass makes the beautiful open and it rise pineapple, papaya and mango in the nose ... Some ester (glue, solvents are always there but still very restrained) many floral notes remind you that it is a young blend. Alcohol barely noticeable in the mouth .... Primarily fruity and fresh, it fills the mouth without giving a clear message.... always there this slight bitterness. For me a good blend if not the best of the Great House series
Review by Adrian Wahl
Clearly fruitier than its brothers GH 21 and GH 20. The blend seems somewhat younger than in previous years.my ranking GH 20 > GH 22 > GH 21
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Review by Lukas Jäger
Review by TheRhumhoe
The new Hampden Great House 2022 edition is distinguished by its mastery and balance of flavors, both olfactory and gustatory. Typical ripe exotic fruit aromas and phenolic notes (esters, solvents and varnish) are found along with more floral, herbal, mineral, wood and vanilla notes. The palate does not deceive the nose and is perhaps slightly more spicy, while keeping this control of flavors to avoid the overdose of funk. The finish, average in length, is dry but quite round, with some leather notes in complement. A great success for the "classic" range of the distillery.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
This one lives up to its predecessors in quality. Price to quality is very good at release though it was gone in a flash from the stores. Well balanced and fruity with wood and vanilla as well as light ester notes. Love it but would have loved a larger release of bottles.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
Review by mto75
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
Fruity, captivating aroma, wonderfully oily texture, perfectly integrated alcohol. The only slightly irritating thing is that the rum does not run down the glass in expected streaks, but rather forms clear drops on the glass wall. But that does not detract from the great taste, of course.
Review by Basti
I like it better than the GH 2021 - without having drunk them side by side. Alcohol is super integrated. For me, it's also clearly ahead in a direct comparison with the Great House 2023.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,7:On the nose, the first impression is very estery, fermented tropical fruits with banana, pineapple, strawberry with vegetal molasses and solvents.Tempting and balanced. On aeration, citrus is out, the wood is roasted, spicy with chocolate and cinnamon. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is delicious, syrupy, estery with tropical fruits like before, citrus, dried figs, the wood is spicy and roasted with cinnamon, pepper, honey, caramel. The molasses is vegetal with an olive, black tea after a while, with very tasty fruitcake. 8,4:The finish is long, dry and fruity with overripe tropical fruits, a bit unravelled with waxy bitterness from wood tannins. There is also some leather, vanilla, earthy peat. Edit:15.9.25
Review by Galli33
In direkt comparsion to the 2021 version, again less powerfull, seems diluted 😉. Alcohol is integrated very well. Nose: Classic Hampden with a nice smell of strawberries🤤 Yummy Mouth: Classic hampden with solvents, ester, overripe fruits and a lot of pineapple but with much less power to the 2021, more like a daily sipper. Finish: medium-long, funky, fruity, woody. My impressions of the Hampden GH series: 2020>2019>2021>2022

Review by Rumpalumpa
Review by Rare Akuma
74% ‘19 HGML and 26% ‘11 LFCH On the nose intensely fruity and vibrant. The HGML component is driving the aroma with (over)ripe tropical fruits, lemon juice, splashes of vinegar, rhubarb and black olives. It’s young, and wild, but oh so inviting. In the mouth it opens fascinatingly mature and composed with wood, sugars and barrel spice, before the HGML takes complete control again. Butyric acids sneak up and ambush the tastebuds with highly fermented notes, as well as Greek yoghurt, lemon juice and lots of rhubarb. Solvents intersect and leave room for more discernible flavours such as yellow banana, red fruits (berries) and a hint of passionfruit. The finish is long, candied and -kind of- winterly, but with the butyric presence still lurking in the shadows. It’s bold, challenging, and above all: delicious.
Review by Vincent D
Hampden nose. Hampden mouthfeel. Year after year, it's not difficult to get used to the new Great House! 2022 is very successful. Better than the 2021 because it's better blended in my opinion. More fruity and more acidic, in the good sense of the word...Too bad I missed the bottle at a few seconds...Impression confirmed on a 2nd test. Very present acidity. The finish is warm and fruity. Very pleasant.Even more disappointed to have missed the bottle.
Review by Serge
I like it well. Is of course always particularly strong when you open the bottle fresh. But from memory, I would definitely say that the banana (and also very slightly strawberry) here already makes a difference to the 21 and 20. Just on the nose, there's a wonderful note of föambé banana playing around the pineapple. Yum.
Review by Mike H.
The nose was mostly overripe fruit but after 15 minutes that lovely nail polish, solvents smell arrived. Very well balanced taste and the rum went perfectly with my cigar which isn’t the case that often.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Mega Great House! Was so disappointed in the 2021. the 2022 is really fun.
Review by Michael Schillheim
Tasted tonight in direct comparison with the GH from 2023. From memory, I found it a little weaker than its predecessors during the solitaire tasting. Today I like the 22 with its lightness, which it possesses despite the usual Hampden characteristics, a little better than the 23 edition.
Review by Timo Groeger
A great Hampden, but which Hampden isn't ;-) The typical ester smell is immediately apparent on the nose, and I found that sugar was also clearly recognizable during the first smell test. Then it subsided when you let it breathe. Then beautiful tropical fruits on the palate. Delicious.
Review by Righrum
Rating this bottle again after having drunk half a bottle, I have to lower the score because, opposite to 2021 release, in this one the oxidation do not add anything leaving this rum too much orienterd towards tropical fruits with little eaters. Beside this, typical low esters Hampden OB tropical ageing release
Review by Leo Krüper
Unfortunately, a bit flatter and less complex than the predecessors. There is some explosiveness missing for a banger.Overall solid Hampden, but I would not get me a whole bottle.
Review by Agricoler
Tasted blind again today. The order remains the same and only 2022 and 2023 were mixed up. Overall, the 2019/2020/2021 vintages have earned the name Great House for me because they simply taste really round, even knowing the differences in terms of color. The 2022 and 2023 vintages are significantly lighter with less depth but in my opinion more buttery. Hampden Great House Crosstasting 2019-2023. Number 4 of the 5. altogether rounder and a touch more intense than the 2023. For this reason 1 point better, because there are also nice barrel notes. Very successful Hampden. For me the following result: 1st place 2020 2nd place 2021 3rd place 2019 4th place 2022 5th place 2023
Review by Palo - V Poháriku
Artisanaly balanced, very fruity with oleasing intensity. The aromas are very very fruity, and oddly satisfying to nose. I get some pineapple, mango, kiwi, but also a bit of darker notes. The palate is fresh, sour, fruity. I had dominant berries flavours with slight tannins present. The finish is quite long and pleasant. Very nice rum!
Review by Jussi Piirainen
Lets test this 2022 and do some comparison with 2020 and 2021. On the nose: More esters, overripe pineapples and banana notes on the nose than 2020 and 2021 releases. Also has fermented notes and little bit nail polish notes. Taste: Mainly esters, overripe pineapples and bananas. Acidic. Good abv integration and nicely balanced. Finish: Woody, ester, pineapple and bananas. Little bit of vanilla. Dry This release has all your typical Hampden notes in it, but the abv level was good and so was the balance. Doesn't really stand out from the Hampden releases as something special, because the flavour profile in this rum is so typical to Hampden.
Review by Martin Augustin
A great smell unfolds with a great fruit basket. A surprising amount of strawberry, which I find interesting. A relatively typical, very fruity Hampden comes through on the palate. Unfortunately a little too thin. But an excellent easy sipper.
Review by Tim
I feel besides the fruity ester and solvent notes, pleasant vanilla and honey. Fermented and overripe as you know and must like. Not overpowering in the mouth either and sufficiently balanced. I'm surprised this one isn't as musty and spicy. However, it could be a bit rounder and more complex.
Review by ilRummista
It has all the typical hampden characteristics but is at the same time very balanced and lets you drink it very well. Complex to the right degree. Very good nose and round palate. I recommend buying the bottle. It will keep you company
Review by Jarek
A Hampden tasting, with Great House 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023, plus the. New Beginnings and both versions of the Pago. Of the Great House, I like the 2022 and 2021 best, even if I don't find the overall differences very big.
Review by JFehr
Fruity, salty and esters. Somewhat unspectacular
Review by John Coffey
On the nose we feel a great potential. But it clearly lacks funkiness and explosiveness in the mouth... The least good of the 4 in my eyes
Review by Alexander Rasch
Review by Romain de L
Very nice - and very Hampden in my mind. Funky nose, very strong, but not too aggressive, almost powdery. Fills the room 😉. After a while, you have caramel notes on top of tar and more classical notes. Attack is smooth and well integrated. Honey, ripe ripe fruits, but with a hint of freshness. Not bitter at all. Long finish. Nice !
Review by Maxime Clr 🇫🇷
Review by Morgan Garet
As soon as the sample is opened, a beautiful gourmand vanilla and fruity smell invades the room. In the nose, the indelible marker is in the foreground followed by vanilla and caramel. After a few minutes in the glass the banana and the pineapple invite themselves shyly. On the palate, tropical fruits dominate, accompanied by caramel and vanilla, spices, a light woody note and of course the characteristic solvents that make the whole thing dynamic, with a long vanilla finish and a nice licorice freshness.
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
For me on par with GH21 which I had on the side. The nose is not as interesting, mostly I pick up a buttermilk note and a bit of vegetables. However the taste compensates, I find it more intense than the 21 one. Leaves a lemony aftertaste. I would need to compare it side by side with a 20, but my guess would be it wouldn't be as round. Thanks MrRumantic for the sample.
Review by Arnaud Faverjon
Very nice blend, a nice balance with a nice story. Not too exuberant, but offers a very nice moment of rum and invites to come back.
Review by Beaureve
Review by Portman
For me, not quite as horny as the 2020, but still the highest craftsmanship. Typical Hampden with a well-balanced portion of esters and wonderful fruit!
Review by Jean-Maurice Diogo Da Cruz
Balance and character 👏👏 the reduction to 55 comfortable surely 🧐
Review by Philip M. 🇧🇪
Very good blend from Hampden. Happy to see the biggest part of the blend is the HGML mark. In comparison with the GH 2021 and 2023 releases, this 2022 sits right in the middle currently. I scored the 2021 release slightly higher.
