Uitvlugt El Dorado Special Cask Finish Madeira Sweet Casks 2006
Made for Demerara fans curious about a Madeira twist — with one caveat most reviewers repeat. The nose is lovely: roasted wood, vanilla, dried figs, raisins and a whiff of nail polish. On the palate it turns oily and dry, with caramel and dark chocolate, but the Madeira sits heavy and several tasters feel it flattens the Uitvlugt underneath. The finish runs long and tannic.
The community says- Lovely dried-fruit nose
- Oily dry palate
- But: Madeira dominates

Oily Demerara where the Madeira runs heavy Cask strength and well-made, but opinion splits on the Madeira: many wish they'd bottled the base rum untouched. A few think the finish suits it perfectly.

I would be absolutely blind here with a Foursquare or NY. I can taste little to no Guyana, not at all from Uitvlugt. Only slightly Demerara in the finish. But that doesn't affect the taste. I find it delicious and very good.

Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2023. ----- I like drinking Madeira as well and it's definitely in the profile and a bit too dominant in my opinion. Fruity with roasted wood and nicely oily on the palate. Draws really nice curtains in the glass.

Surprisingly delicious on the nose with lots of vanilla, dried & candied fruits, leather, oak, caramel in various degrees of roast as well as some varnish and polish. Then a little more Madeira influence on the palate - but not as bad/sweet as I had feared. As the first in the series, it tastes quite good to me. But it would probably have been even better without the finish.

I just don't understand all the finishes. The base fabric would probably be pretty good! You can guess it. But the finish rather slays the rum.

8,5:On the nose, roasted wood notes, brown, like nuts, pastry, caramel, toffee, sweet Madeira wine fruits with raisins, prunes, dried apricots and cherries, nail polish, solvents, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, citrus and candied fruits, dried figs join, leather, dark chocolate, Demerara sugar and vanilla, molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, earthy with tobacco, flowery. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is oily and dry with Madeira barrel impact, roasted wood notes like caramel, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, Demerara sugar, pastry, spicy with vanilla, allspice and hints of umami, fruity with raisins, dried apricots, orange and grapes, when well aired, red fruits, dried figs, candied fruits, as molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, earthy, musty. 8,4:The finish is long, dry&tannic, slightly sulphurous, Madeira barrel impact is complementing Demerara Rum nicely.

Guyana and DDL are among the rum producers that have a certain recognizability / DNA. This usually works very well with El Dorado, even with alternative cask maturations. Here, however, the Madeira Sweet Cask flattens the original product somewhat, which is a shame. The "original" comes through again slightly after some time in the glass, but Guyana fans may not really enjoy it. Incidentally, I wouldn't call this a finish, as the rum has been in both casks for roughly the same length of time, so it's more like double cask ageing.

Preis Leistungsverhältnis passt hier leider nicht da er stark an den 21 jährigen Standard erinnert

Finish works very well in this Uitvlugt.

#immernochkeinprofi German Rum Festival 2023 exciting rum, starts quite harmless and harmonious, then becomes full-bodied and complex, great mouthfeel and cleanly integrated alcohol - good that you can try it here... the bottle is already a small investment.

It is definitely not the modern rum taste. It tastes like rum from 70's, cask strength with +200% aroma compared to 70's rums. I like it!
