It is definitely not the modern rum taste. It tastes like rum from 70's, cask strength with +200% aroma compared to 70's rums. I like it!

#immernochkeinprofi German Rum Festival 2023 exciting rum, starts quite harmless and harmonious, then becomes full-bodied and complex, great mouthfeel and cleanly integrated alcohol - good that you can try it here... the bottle is already a small investment.

A nose of varnished, encaustic wood, cracked old leather and tropical fruit. The palate hesitates between brown sugar/caramel and old wood, which takes over and you have to look for the fruit. The finish is rather long but monolithic (woody). The empty glass is more balanced and finally brings to mind a great Demerara, but alas, it's a long way off.

Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2023. ----- I like drinking Madeira as well and it's definitely in the profile and a bit too dominant in my opinion. Fruity with roasted wood and nicely oily on the palate. Draws really nice curtains in the glass.

I just don't understand all the finishes. The base fabric would probably be pretty good! You can guess it. But the finish rather slays the rum.

Guyana and DDL are among the rum producers that have a certain recognizability / DNA. This usually works very well with El Dorado, even with alternative cask maturations. Here, however, the Madeira Sweet Cask flattens the original product somewhat, which is a shame. The "original" comes through again slightly after some time in the glass, but Guyana fans may not really enjoy it. Incidentally, I wouldn't call this a finish, as the rum has been in both casks for roughly the same length of time, so it's more like double cask ageing.
