Duncan Taylor Hampden Single Cask Rum C<>H 1990
Sip this one neat — it's built for a tasting glass, not cola. A classic 1990 Hampden: ripe pineapple, tropical fruit, glue and that Play-Doh ester funk, with vanilla, oak and caramelised almond sitting behind. The 52.9% is beautifully knit in, so it drinks dangerously easy for a high-ester Jamaican. Several tasters found it fruity, creamy and rounded.

Sehr fruchtig und süffig für einen Hampden! Schöne Nummer. Ganz klassischer 1990er Hampden mit viel Frucht-estern und einer schönen cremigkeit. Eckt nicht an und fügt sich gut in die restlichen Schwesterfässer ein. Gibt's quasi nix zu meckern. Fast schon unverschämt gefährlich süffig!😄

Nice, but mild and weak ... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that produces alcohol for perfume as well as rum. In all the rums from this distillery you will taste wild esters, after which your whole organism will soak up the smell of golden tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the "must try before you die" rums

05.03.2016 Finally back in Kolding again after some years at Messe C in Fredericia. Much easier to get home when it's within walking distance. Had my good friend from Singapore visit for a month and that ended up in a lot of tasting 😊 Tony brought this one, a bottle birth that became very popular and almost ended its life at the event. Notes. Nose: wood, glue, intense, ester, fruity, banana. Palate: Intense, balanced, wood, ester, banana, citrus. Finish: very long, fruity, pineapple, ester, wood, light smoke, medium dry.

Classic Hampden profile, stands out in direct comparison with other 1990 releases primarily due to its reduced drinking strength. This can work well, especially in view of the high ester power waiting in the glass; in my subjective opinion, the releases in which the maturation is even more pronounced score particularly well in a direct comparison with other vintage representatives. Both the additional years in the cask and the full strength of the bottling play a role here. My lament is at a high level - the release lacks neither quality nor drinking pleasure. A very good rum.

Unverkennbare Hampden-DNA mit Ananas, Apfel und überreifen Früchten. Mit dazu gibt es Vanille, Karamell und Holz, aber eher im Hintergrund. Im Mund auch fruchtig, Marzipan und würzig holzig, wobei sich Schokolade und Röstaromen im Abgang dazu gesellen. Sehr guter Rum, aber kein Über-Rum meiner Meinung nach.

Sehr ausgewogener und runder Hampden, der alles mitbringt was ich mir von einem C<>H wünsche. Alkohol und auch die Säure der "Ananas" ist perfekt eingebunden. Lässt sich leicht trinken und schmeckt dabei so gut. Das macht richtig Spaß.

Compared to TheRumCask 26yo, the nose of the Duncan Taylor is somewhat more restrained and not quite as deep and complex - but the emphasis here is definitely on "in comparison", otherwise the relationship and the underlying vintage are clearly recognizable. On the palate and in the finish, it is not quite as acidic and aniseed-heavy as the TRC, but a little drier. At the back, two of us tasters also had an association with roasted/caramelized almonds, which were not found in the TRC. At cask strength, this rum would probably have been on a par with the TRC, but that's all complaining on a high level. 90 points

Auf dem Armagnacfestival 2026 bei Catawiki ein Sample gekauft, zum Glück. Was für ein schöner, intensiver, fruchtiger, komplexer Hampden. Wow. Außergewöhnliche Spritzigkeit. Alkohol ist toll eingebunden. Nase ist wirklich funky, fruchtig überreife Ananas, die für mich typische Playdoh Note… that’s why we drink hampden
