Banana and pineapple ride in on the classic Hampden glue-and-ester punch, then a PX sherry finish layers in honey, dried apricot and a little sulphur. At cask strength it needs time in the glass, and a couple members say the alcohol isn't perfectly tucked in — fair, for a rum aged just one year. For the ester share it delivers, several call it wildly good for its age.

Ich stehe eigentlich nicht auf PX-Cask Ausbau, alleine bei High-Ester Jamaikanern finde ich es manchmal doch recht passend. Und ein HGML gehört schon zu meinen Lieblings-Marks. Also mal schauen… Nase: sowohl die Ester als auch das PX sind ganz klar da. Banane und Ananas zusammen mit Klebstoff gepaart mit leichtem Schwefel und getrockneter Aprikose. Feine Essig-Noten und eine Honig-Süße runden ab. Angenehm, könnte gerne etwas weniger PX sein. 8,2 Gaumen: angenehme Ester, deutliches PX. Zitrone zusammen mit Ananas und etwas Banane. Leicht bitter und fast salzig zu Beginn, dann leicht dumpf und schwefelig, aber mit einer gewissen Süße und mit Anklängen von speckigem Umami. Auch hier ist mir das PX-Finish etwas zu dominant, insgesamt aber ein entspannter Tropfen. 8,0

Und weiter geht es mit Tour de France schauen. Heute hoffentlich eine spannender Etappe als gestern, was die Favoriten angeht. Super Hampden wie ich finde, wieder Ester, Ananas und Banane. Ja sehr lecker jedenfalls.

8,5:On the nose, medicinal with esters and glue, intense, thick with sherry barrel impact, roasted wood notes like caramel, spicy with allspice, overripe tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, red fruits with strawberry, cherry, some vinegar, briny olive, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried apricots, dried currants, raisins arise, citrus fruits, some candied, molasses is vegetal with tomatoes, red bell peppers, sweet with honey, dark with hints of licorice, leather, vanilla, meaty tones join, slightly sulphurous touch. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is medicinal with esters, sherry barrel impact is obvious, fruity with fermented tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red, citrus fruits, dried apricots, raisins, slightly acidic, molasses is vegetal with briny olive, flowery, dark with licorice, sweet with honey, as the wood is roasted with caramel, burnt sugar, leather, pastry, biscuits, nutty, spicy with vanilla, allspice, umami, bbq. 8,5:The finish is long, dry&tannic, sherry barrel impact is weaker, medicinal with esters, slightly sulphurous, fruity with overripe tropical, red and citrus fruits, dried fruits, some candied, molasses is vegetal, wood is roasted with caramel, smoky, meaty with bacon, spicy..

Needs a lot of time.Very nice nose, then in the mouth little of the PX barrel, but also the marrow holds back.The finish is quite short and the alcohol is not perfectly integrated, but one should note the short storage of only one year.Very rare bottling and virtually unavailable.

On the nose: Sherry cask influence is present. Esters with pineapple and banana. Balanced. Taste: Esters, pineapple and bananas. Sherrycask brings dark notes and some acidic notes. A bit alcoholic, but in overall for a young rum, this is balanced. Finish: Esters, Sherry and pineapple notes. Medium finish. I think this is a good Jamaican rum with sherry cask influence. No surprises in the notes, but good balance and certain roundness makes this a good rum in that category.
