Enmore Kill Devil 1992
The surprise here is how dark and savoury this gets: cedar cigar box, coffee, licorice and prunes, with a "goût de rôti" roasted-meat edge some tasters flag. It's the classic Enmore Versailles wooden-still profile — dry, tannic, a touch bitter. The recurring gripe: at 46% it feels dialed down, and several wish it were cask strength to fully open up.

Aggregated from 32 community reviews.
Roasted, woody Enmore held back by 46% Most love the smoky, roasted Versailles character and long dry finish. The steady complaint: 46% tames it, so it reads a little thin for 25 years — good, not the great it could be.

This rum perfumes the room when poured. Cedar wood (cigar box) dominates the nose, but bergamot and prunes are not far off. A real taste of roast completes this atypical nose. The palate is initially almost entirely woody (cedar), with prune, dried fruit, licorice and a hint of cooled roast fat on the finish. Astonishing! The finish is long and citrus reappears at the very end. Phew! The empty glass is complex and much more balanced than the mouth. A highly aromatic and far from uninteresting rum, but dominated by an expression of wood that's too monolithic for my taste, especially on the finish. Empty glass, leather is also present. Less interesting than its brother RX464.

Beautiful, warm demerara profile. Very balanced. Plenty of tannin in the mouth, good drinking strength. There may be more powerful, complex and exciting continental aged Demeraras, but this one gets the Versailles flavor profile spot on while being very drinkable.
Review by Serge
Continental Demerara with a really nice Versailles profile: lots of fruit and intense flavor on the typical markers despite a low ABV. The bitterness is also very restrained compared to other old Versailles. I like it very much.

8,7:On the nose, roasted wood notes like chocolate, leather, roasted nuts, spicy with anise, prunes, sour cherry, peaches, bergamot, dried apricots, raisins, molasses with black tea, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is thick with soy sauce, floral with rose, hay-ish, bourbon barrel impact is obvious, smoky and medicinal touch, new fruits arise like currants, black berry, some of the fruits are overripe, fermented, dairy hints join, some caramel and coffee. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity with prunes, dried apricots, raisins, banana and orange, molasses is thick, candied, dark with licorice, herbaceous, vegetal with sap, earthy with cigar tobacco, mineral, flowery with rose, as the wood is roasted with leather, dark chocolate, oily, spicy with allspice, balanced. 8,6:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, caramelized, dark chocolate, pecans, peppery, smoky, pairing dark, thick molasses with licorice, black tea, herbaceous, earthy with cigar tobacco, fruits like prunes, orange, metallic patina.

Very tasty and palatable Enmore, which is almost a little too palatable due to the reduction, but still not watery. The typical markers are present. Predominantly roasted aromas, licorice, leather, spices, wood, light herbs. A successful bottling.

Review by w00tAN
Nice piece. The nose is quite fruity for its age but the spice dominates followed by roasted and woody notes. The palate is equally spicy and quite herbal
Review by Johannes
I just really like the Versailles profile! This one is nicely balanced, tending towards the slightly bitter side. Still enough dark fruity notes but with molasses, caramel, tobacco and tannins.

Review by Manuel
Very typical profile of a Guyana rum. Relatively dark brown color in the glass. Very fruity but woody notes on the nose. The finish is rather medium-long, very light sweetness in the aftertaste. A very solid rum.

Kill Devil Single Cask Rum 46% is extremely good, it's long, drinkable and makes you want to try this magnificent rum again very quickly! It's really delicious. The nose is very interesting and complex, it's a Rum that doesn't burn the palate.

Full body, rich, 20+ in the barrel is both in the nose and in the mouth, dark and strong and yummy, really nice

The rum clearly lacks strength. Barrel strength would do it good. Slight bitterness ruins the picture a little for me. I had hoped for more. It lacks character and depth. However, I do like the slight freshness it brings. All in all, not a candidate for a large bottle for me
Review by Michael Zörer
Intense rum, dense, heavy, mature, woody. Somewhat bitter, definitely not a flatterer. Lies oily in the glass, the 46% fits me well here. Mature rum, demanding, wants to be enjoyed slowly.

A nice dram that for me really loses complexity in the watering down to 46 abv. Not much in the sense of flaws but still something where I just wish for a few more percent, but even cask strength just more
