Velier Saint James Sélection exclusive Velier 2000
Most tasters land on "good but not the peak of the set" — several rate the 1998 higher and wish this had more complexity for 21 years of tropical aging. What's here is a dark, dry agricole: roasted coffee, dark chocolate, dried fruit and old sandalwood, with grassy sugarcane underneath. One reviewer calls it "elegant, very well balanced." Tasted on the Whisky and Rum festival 2022. IJmuiden. www.zeewijck.nl Zeewijcks boss' Richard poured this to me. Lovely aged rum. Really good.

Beautiful nose. Wood, coffee, lots of caramel and then dried fruit. Balanced, not complex.In the mouth it continues right away. Crisp and warm. Some sweetness and very drinkable.Nothing extraordinary, but a very good rum. Certainly goes well with a cigar.

Not too bad though I would have liked more complexity to a rum this age. Fruity with spices and really nice wood. I like that you get roasted coffee on the nose.

Great VSGB Vertical live tasting by and with Luca Gargano. 10/22/2022, 17:03.Tropically aged for 21 years. Rare to find.Nose: intense, balanced and really tasty. Age really does the nose good. Old, fragrant sandalwood with a nice woody acidity and a subtle vinegar note. Black currant with blood orange, banana and cherry. Plus caramel, vanilla and a hint of Maggi background.Palate: seems and remains a bit thin, but has a pleasant woody bitter-salty attack, through lemon zest and currant to some chocolate, licorice to grass. No soap! Quite good in comparison.Place:N: 3/10G: 1/10

Compared to other vintages from this release, the 2000 is definitely very dark in terms of flavours. Cocoa, dark chocolate, dark dried fruits, wood. I also feel like it is a very elegant rum, very well balanced and distinguished.

Nose reminiscent of rye whiskey. 🇺🇸 In the taste planty notes that disturb me a little, overall he could have tolerated more alcohol.

Tak tohle je moc fajn. Krasna mahagonova barva, pomalinku styka rum po stenach sklenky. Ve vuni krasne tony dreva a lehce mydla jako u spousty SJ. V chuti moc dobre, stare, vyvazene a alkohol je take dobre integrovany. Chutna

A bit fresher on the nose than the 1998. The sweet vanilla, caramel and grassy notes remain, along with tropical fruits. The palate reveals a pleasant melange of fruit, wood and spices, but lacks the final refinement.

Franconian Tasting Gang on 10.05.2024 First of all, a big thank you to DomM for providing this set. Personally, I didn't like the profile. With one exception, this soap flavor is too much for me. But thanks to DomM and Serge, the leftovers from the glasses ended up in a spontaneous and outstanding cocktail.

Parallel-Verkostung der Velier Saint James Reihe in der Franconian Tasting Gang. Danke Dom fürs Aufreissen 👌 Alles in Allem ist das Set für mich nicht herrausragend gut sondern eher durchschnittlich mit ein paar Ausreißern nach oben und unten. Kurzzusammenfassung nach Vintages: 2015 & 2014 waren für mich eher unangenehm. 2010 & 2012 besser aber immer noch nichts, was ich nochmal trinken wollen würde. 2008 & 2006 & 2004 waren dann deutlich besser und interessanter. 2002 dann wieder ein Totalausfall (Katzenpisse, die sich zu Multivitamintabletten weiterentwickelt und gar nicht zum Holz passt). 2000 dann wieder gut und 1998 für mich der Beste aus dem Set.
