Velier Saint James Sélection exclusive Velier 2012
Perfumed soap is the note almost everyone lands on here, over a base of roasted wood, grass, licorice and citrus peel. This 2012 Saint James from Velier came from a dry harvest year, and it shows: woody, spicy, medicinal, a little astringent. Some tasters find the soapiness fascinating, others call it a fault they can't get past. Divisive, and not the sweet side of agricole.

Much better than the previous two but a bit out of balance in my mind.

Erneut würzige Seife und erneut einfach schlecht.

I was surprised by how the flavours of this rum were not really present on my tongue. I don't mean to say that it has no flavours, it does, and the overall sensation of tasting it is not directly unpleasant. But it feels like it had some potential that got flushed away by dilution. Strange that its younger brothers (2014 and 2015 vintages) have more character than this one does.

Unusual perfumed soap associations on the palate. Not my cup of tea.

This Saint James was definitely not Velier masterpiece. Just one common filling to co tinue the production.

Here, too, the DNA is recognizable in the nose, wood, herbs, roasted aromas - in addition, a floral-perfumed note comes to the fore, which fades slightly into soapy. On the palate, light citrus fruits, wood, roasted aromas, herbs and hay; however, a disturbing medicinal-waxy off-note comes to the fore that irritates me. Unfortunately, this off-note also remains present in the finish, which is why I cannot give it a better rating.
