Velier Saint James Sélection exclusive Velier 2006
One taster called this "a breaking point" in the vertical — the 2006 where things step up. Expect grassy sugarcane, lemon and dried fruit over roasted French oak, with vanilla, leather and a dry, slightly bitter finish. A few loved the balance and red-fruit notes; others found the palate thin and the wood a bit much. Genuine aged agricole character.

- Roasted oak balance

Slightly better than the standard 15 year release. Better balance but I'd like a higher ABV 😊 Waiting for the rest if the samples to arrive so I can score them as well (7 samples were broken when they arrived, postal services in Denmark is not always good) .

Tasted at a private tasting. Pretty woody this one. French oak/Armagnac/cognac with that typical acidity. Red fruits. Cherry. Oak is very present in the nose. Some velpon too. Taste. Delicious. Wood and flowers. Very balanced. Menthol too. This might be one of my favourites of the Velier vintages. A bit of everything that makes Saint James great. Lovely.

8,2:On the nose, typical agricole with grassy, perfumed sugarcane, citrus and dried fruits like raisins, apricots, roasted wood, slightly spicy with nutmeg On aeration, the cane is herbaceous, flowery, we have caramel, nuts and cocoa from roasted notes and yellow fruits. 7,7:On the palate, the attack is a bit imbalanced, sour with spicy, roasted wood with caramel, chocolate and leather, quite dry and yellow, dried fruits, the sugarcane is weaker.Just after resting the rum, the cane releases flowery and herbaceous touch, spices are strong with allspice, salt, weak vanilla, as the wood is smoky. 7,9: The finish is more balanced, still dry, a bit bitter with grassy, flowery, herbaceous cane and black tea, slightly earthy, the wood still roasted with crème brûlée, chocolate, nougat, confectionery, peppery, the fruits are citrus, dried..

Holzig. Zitronenschale mit Vanille und Leder. Insgesamt doch sehr trocken. Hinten raus grasig. Geht so. Platz: N: 6/10 G: 8/10

Schön rund, etwas Holz, Zitrus, Schokolade, vielleicht etwas dünn.

Toller Agricole!

This Saint James was definitely not Velier masterpiece. Just one common filling to co tinue the production.

Ganz solide und vor allem keine Seifennote

I had this rum in a vertical tasting of the 10 vintages from this release and I feel like this exact vintage is a breaking point in terms of quality. Compared to the younger vintages, for me the 2006 steps up the game. Flavour profile as I got it was very fruity, kind of woody, but in a good way and there are also some spicy notes present. Lovely stuff!
