Rhum J.M La Dame Jeanne Numéro 1

What surprises most people here is how little grass and earth show up — this leans woody, spiced and fruity instead. Expect candied fruit, orange peel, vanilla, dark chocolate and pipe tobacco, with nutmeg and toasted oak underneath. Several tasters called it their favorite J.M so far. A few found it rounded but a touch unremarkable, and one hit varnish. The 48.3% sits well integrated.

Woody, spiced aged agricole, well balanced Most tasters land around "very good aged agricole" — balanced, spicy, fruity, oaky, with well-hidden alcohol. A few felt it lacked a real signature, and one taster found it bitter.

Delicious Agricole! Surprising for me are the tropical fruits, especially orange and orange peel, which are wonderfully included in the aromatics of various spices and barrel notes. Unlike many Agricoles little grassiness or earthy notes, which I would attribute to an already longer time in the barrel, however, there is no indication of this. For the price of course also Leon schnappet, but a very good Agricole, which plays for me personally far in front!

The best J.M I‘ve tried so far 🥹😍. Nose: Delicious agricole notes, sugarcane, vanilla, fruits, orange peel, caramel, dark chocolate, cinnamon, hazelnut, floral notes, tobacco Mouth: Balanced, dry, delicious, full bodied, intense, agricole, vanilla, salty, woody, oak, sugarcane, creme brulee Finish: Long, delicious, sugarcane, roasted, caramel, grass, tobacco The alcohol is a little noticeable, but well balanced with the rum itself and gives it a nice roundness.🤤🤤

Very multilayered, not too sweet, but rather woody (positive!) Agricole blend. Tastes really very good to me, but must first prove itself in crosstasting against another No. 1 - well, which one probably? 😉 [Ok, I mean the Saint James Les Ephémeres No. 1 - RX12796, which was significantly cheaper at release, but can now only be obtained with a lot of luck. 😋] Now without comparison sample initially 88 points - so already pretty excellent. Recommendation!

La Grande Dame..... with this nose...definitely.... I could sniff it for hours...wonderfully fruity, slightly floral, subtle sweetness with vanilla... As expected, the palate is relatively soft and thin... it's almost classic Agricole... there's no recognizable outstanding feature, but here in a positive sense, it flatters the palate and towards the end a clear grassy note is perceptible... this continues in the finish. A very good Agricole

I compared the last of my sample with the J.M. XO. It’s better on all fronts: the nose is sweeter and more seductive, great balance in the flavor profile between the agricole, herbal, woody and sweet notes. The aftertaste beats the XO with a small margin. But considering the difference in price tag, I expected more to be honest. Value for money: buy a bottle of XO and something else along with it. But that’s just my two cents.

#4535 10.01.2024 Sittibg at home relaxing getting ready for another check up in hospital tomorrow. This is a very nice complex and well balanced rum. Fruity with nice spices and light roasted notes. The palate is oily and the ABV is very well integrated. There is a very nice touch of sugarcane on the palate. The finish is medium to long and has light anise and grass to it. Happy that I bought a bottle ☺️

My first and maybe only 10! I have nothing, absolutely nothing, to criticize. Wonderful notes of vanilla, fruit, some wood, floral meadow, raisins, burnt sugar and tobacco, both on the nose and on the palate. All in a wonderfully balanced complexity. Rhum J.M is my favorite among the Agricoles anyway, but this time they more than thrilled me. Urgent recommendation!

Rhum J.M is Martinique's oldest surviving distillery, tucked into a lush volcanic valley in Macouba on the northern slopes of Mount Pelee. It is the only producer on the island that makes its rum entirely from its own cane, milled within an hour of cutting, and its brown-sugar signature has made J.M one of the most beloved agricole names with collectors.
