Thompson Bros. New Yarmouth 1994
"Balanced and nice. Artificial orange on the palate," is how one taster nailed it. This 27-year New Yarmouth leans into the classic 1994 profile — coconut, vanilla and toffee — with darker leather, tobacco and roasted notes underneath. A few reviewers found it a touch spice-heavy and, at 60.1%, it turns hot and drying fast. Powdery, almost Scotch-like funk sets it apart.
The community says- Coconut and toffee
- Good ABV integration
- Spice-heavy for some

How does Thompson Bros. New Yarmouth 1994 taste?
Aggregated from 46 community reviews.
Coconut-toffee Jamaican with Scotch-like funk Well-liked but seen as one of the softer, sweeter 1994 New Yarmouths — coconut and toffee up front, some finding it spice-heavy and a bit one-dimensional versus the top releases.

Beautifully sweet, creamy, like caramel. A great choice for rum drinkers who want to switch from sweet syrups to pure spirit. New Yarmouth 1994 rarely disappoints. This is a great choice that you will always want to come back to.

The last in my 1994 NY series. Unfortunately, also one of the weaker! The nose is still okay, but then he loses on the palate! Too unbalanced are the flavors and do not really harmonize! He is too spice-heavy for me.

Nose better than palate, but therefore relatively "fair" in price

Spirits Museum Tasting 29th of March 2025.

The classic NY94 profile with lots of vanilla, coconut and toffee is joined here by subtle green and tart notes that remind me of tobacco and leather. Interesting addition to the New Yarmouth 1994 spectrum, but it is not enough for me for the top group of releases.

#5541 09.08.2025 Relaxing with a few samples while my wife is at the gym 😊 Nose Medium intense, wood, light roasted, clove, light leather, light earthy, light coconut, light caramel. Palate Fresh, oily, wood, light roasted, cinnamon, faint tannins, light leather, light chocolate, light tea, light coconut, fruits. Finish Long and warm, wood, faint smoke, fruits, cinnamon, light leather, light chocolate. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, clove, light dried fruit. Needs to rest for a while to really open up and it's pretty nice balanced with very good ABV integration.

Ein schön süßer fruchtiger Rum. Viel Kokosnuss und Toffee. Alkohol sehr gut eingebunden. Profil sehr durchgängig. Macht richtig Spaß. Zum Ende kommt mehr Lösungsmittel. Gefällt mir sehr gut. Ein leckerer NY1994.

A continuation of the luxurious funk. It's reminiscent of scotch with a powdery characteristic, but there are rum notes and esters. I find this a bit more appealing than the similar Foursquare Redoubtable. ---------------------------------------------- Nose. Smoky oak with plenty of charring, the foundation fragrance is like ground dried flowers. Deep sweetness of dark chocolate and tropical fruits on the base. After 30 minutes, the incense and oak die down and currants and bananas emerge. Taste. After the citrus, the spiciness quickly intensifies with time, burning the mouth and making it difficult to swirl for long. The flavor is dry, and the texture is powdery in places, which is interesting. Somewhat salty. If Foursquare is heavily bourbon-driven, this is more of a Scotch whisky characterization of one of the many funks. Finish. The cosmetic notes get stronger and stronger. There's a bit of mango hoarseness. On the palate, maple nuances and roasted nuts are fleeting, followed by bitterness with subtle tannins. The finish is spicy, only moderately present in terms of texture, and then fades quickly.
