William Grant & Sons Diamond Wood‘s Old Navy Rum (Original Navy Recipe)

Dark raisin and coffee lead the way, backed by treacle, cinnamon and a whiff of brandy — a heavy Demerara pour built for cold weather. At 57% it kicks hard: several members warn it can knock you around, and one found it too overpowering to buy again. Others keep a bottle handy year-round, sipping it neat or dropping it into cola. Rough edges, but the raisin-and-molasses character wins fans.

The nose is a bit sharp. Notes of toffee and coffee are most present. Some raisins and cinnamon lingers in the background. Hints of brandy as well. The palette is just as sharp as the nose. The toffee has turned into thicker treacle and the coffee is still there. It's rather sweet. Some astringency on the back end. The finish is short with some pepper and molasses. Overall, not a great overproof. Quite rough, a touch medicinal and sickly. I doubt I'll pour another.

Typical diamond. Strong wood tones that already come through well in the distillate. Little ester

Omg. Christmas pudding, sweet, heavy, then the 57% kicks in. However, probably wouldn’t get it again. Just to overpowering for my liking.

First review here, but I love the taste of a raisin rum, and Wood's navy rum was the one help me realize this. However, it is one of those rums I would not actively have multiple servings in go. It can knock you around quite harshly. I will always keep a bottle where I can, handy as it's an easy way to get tipsy and enjoy the flavour at the same time. I've had this as a mixer, as well as a sipper. I like it both ways.
