Grays New Grove Savoir-Faire Rozelieures (Whisky cask finish) 2013
Here's the twist: the nose reads like a proper Mauritian rum — nutty oak, dried fruit, a bit of peach and tropical fruit — but on the palate the peated whisky cask takes over. Smoke, big tannins, earth and a dry, roasted finish push the original rum into the background. Several tasters felt the whisky "renversé la table" and buried the rum's identity.

Peated whisky cask overtakes the rum Divisive finish. The nose keeps New Grove's fruit and nuts, but the peated whisky cask dominates the palate — smoke, wood and earth. Whisky fans may love it, rum purists less so.

#4954 Whisky Live in Paris 27.09.2024-30.09.2024. Another great event meeting a lot of RumX new and old friends. This year three weren't as many new releases as in 2023, but I still had a great time. Nose Light wood, faint roasted, fruity, light caramel, dried fruit, faint coffee. Palate Oily, round, light wood, light coffee, light nutts, dried fruit, faint orange, spice, faint peat. Finish Medium long, light wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light nutts, spice, faint peat.

Tasted again. Okay, on the nose it's a rum, quite woody and nutty, a bit like an old Clemente. On the palate, the whisky overturns the table, big tannins, a little cereal, light smoke. The wood is very present, but it's a success.

A very good rum worth trying

Just an hint of usual new grove loads of tropical fruits, and a layer earthy and dirty due to the finish, but the latter doesn't improve much the drinking experience
