Habitation Velier Hampden Single Cask Salon du Rhum HLCF 2018
People are a bit divided on this one. Everyone agrees it's unmistakably Hampden — pineapple, banana, glue and that solvent kick — but at three years several tasters find it young, thin and slightly bitter, with the 64.6% not fully tucked away. Fans call it a "nicely balanced young Hampden"; others expected more from a Velier single cask.

Very fresh and funky even slightly grassy, fruitiness and Hampden genes all nicely present. But everything is a bit immature. For me personally almost still too young at least pure ... I'm curious to see what he delivers in May Tai.

I had expected more. A young Hampden, in which the tropical maturation does not come through, the alcohol is well integrated, but overall unfortunately rather watery.
Review by Leo Krüper
Not a beginner Hampden. Has rough edges and is correspondingly strong in character. Unfortunately, alcohol is not fully integrated, otherwise I would like him even more.

Nicely balanced young Hampden.

Tasting evening with Dr. Django (Jamaica): The Hampden Mark HLCF shows a nice maturity with very pronounced but balanced flavors with esters, wood and spice. It is very creamy and pleasant on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated. Great bottling
Review by zabo
A solid Hampden in line with the market, but unfortunately not a runaway winner. I find it a little too bitter. Also in terms of price, not exactly an everyday rum. I think this was bottled more for collecting than for drinking.
Review by Timo Groeger
A beautiful Hampden, but then again, almost all of them are ;-) It has a lovely nose, consisting of tropical fruits, pineapple, and banana. The palate is also beautifully fruity. The alcohol is well integrated.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A young, lively, and robust Hampden, which opens with a very funky nose, carried by overripe exotic fruits and sour cherry, notes of esters, solvents, and glue, but also pastry influences of marzipan and molasses. Apart from these notes of advanced fermentation, there are hints of spices (vanilla, pepper) that stir the nose. A clear, direct but appealing olfactory profile. The attack on the palate is full-bodied, powerful but rather rounded. The funk returns with powerful notes of esters, solvents, and glue, but also very rich and present fruits on the palate (banana, pineapple, strawberry, lemon). The spices give a slight tingling sensation, revived by a relatively high alcohol content. You can sense that this 3-year-old rum is still maturing despite everything. The finish is persistent, almost sticky, particularly on the fruit (banana and strawberry in particular), medicinal notes, tannins and spicy aromas. Longer maturation would certainly have allowed for more aromas and complexity, but this remains a smooth, pleasant and authentic Hampden for such a young age.

Delightfully fresh and fruity on the nose. The same characteristic comes to the fore on the palate. What a funky and fruity Hampden. Just like what the others are saying, it is a young, fruity, wild Hampden. Alcohol is definitely present. And perhaps not entirely mature and full-bodied. But what a funky rum. I really like this one.
Review by Benoit Mahe
The fruits struggle to make a place for themselves in this rather chemical Hampden. It remains not bad for such a young rum and one recognizes the distillery.

I expect more from a Velier. Bit bitter and young in my eyes. I really like HLCF, but this release is now no revelation.
Review by Barnagricole
HLCF 2018 - Nose: banana, kiwi, slightly fermented pineapple. Tart fruit. Maracudja. Eucalyptus/menthol. Blended in a very light barrel background that brings vanilla. Light varnish/glue that intensifies as it progresses. Light cocoa. - palate: maracudja and red fruit acidity, followed by banana, gradually intermingle. Then comes the bitterness of roasted cocoa, cherry stone and nuts. - Finish: Nuts such as walnuts and almonds, and cherry pit.

Gibt deutlich bessere Hampdens in meinen Augen.

Had quite high expectations here but is rather a bitter disappointment. I don't know what went wrong here and normally I really don't have a problem with such a high alcohol content, but here everything just burns. Plus this taste of burnt plastic and resin from the wood. Unfortunately not really my cup of tea, don't know what went wrong here...

Naso tipico hampden , Aromatico mono dimensione ma più vegetale . Bocca molto spiritosa , troppo , mediamente grassa , amarognolo finale … Nel complesso mi aspettavo di più .. troppo giovane Over price
