Famille Ricci Uitvlugt Exception 1989
"Another grand old lady, but not as good," one taster put it, and that captures the mood here. This 33-year Uitvlugt from 1989 shows the classic Port Mourant signature — licorice, pepper, leather, wood and a whisper of raisin, with almond and apple-crumble touches. The nose wins people over; the palate feels lighter and can read a touch watered down at 49.5%.

How does Famille Ricci Uitvlugt Exception 1989 taste?
Aggregated from 21 community reviews.
Old Demerara, great nose, lighter palate A complex, spice-and-wood old Demerara that charms on the nose but underdelivers on the palate for several tasters. Well-liked, not loved — and no one thinks it's worth the price.

Sehr guter, komplexer, typischer Vertreter des Port Mourant aus 1989. Ich mag das Geschmacksprofil sehr gerne! Leider zwei Mankos: der Preis und der niedrige Alkoholgehalt.

Another grand old lady but not as good. Price to quality is out of balance. A nice rum though just not what I expected, I did prepare myself for a great experience but got burned a bit.

Aromatically quite complex - but it needs some patience. Plenty of spice and wood, which are reflected in licorice, leather, pepper and smoky notes. In addition, a passable portion of herbs and minimal sweetness with well-tarred alcohol. Meets overall unfortunately not completely my preferred Geachmacksprofil, so it is not enough in my subjective assessment for an even higher score - despite undisputed high level.

Small 1989 Utivlugt cross tasting: Nobilis vs. CorCol vs. CoR vs. Ricci vs. TWJ. On the nose: CoR >>> Ricci > TWJ = Nob > CC With its higher ABV the CoR is playing in a wholly different league - stunning on the nose. CC needs very much time to open up. TWJ with the darkest nose; Most leather and wood forwards. Palate: CoR > Nobilis > CC > TWJ >> Ricci While I really enjoy the nose on this one, it cannot hold up an the palate. Feels watered down with less fruity notes and significantly less balance vs. other 89s.
