Pusser‘s Rum Deptford Dockyard Reserve
What surprises most people is how dark this navy blend leans — mocha, roasted nut, burnt sugar and licorice more than sweetness. It's a blend of Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados at gunpowder proof, and several tasters catch a little rubber and dirty ester on the nose. Give it air; it opens into cocoa, nutmeg and dried fruit. A "grundsolider" navy that punches above its price.

This limited edition is released by Pusser’s to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of Black Tot Day, July 31th 1970. It’s named after the naval base Deptford Dockyard where the Navy’s most important spirit depot was established in 1742. At the depot there was around 30 storage vats that accommodated and aged more than 250,000 gallons of rum. This rum, the Pusser’s Deptford Dockyard Reserve, is a blend of high esters rum from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados just as the rum was in past. Today most of Pusser’s rum is a blend just from Guyana. It’s aged for a minimum of three years in charred oak bourbon barrels before bottled at Gunpowder Proof level, 54,5%.

Solid blend .... nothing more nothing less.

Pusser's 50th and the Deptford version in direct comparison. Both very great rums with a very similar profile. The Anniversary is more Guyana-heavy and sweet and sticky, and much more intense on the palate. Whereas the Deptford is somewhat lighter on the palate, but fruitier. Both have a medium-long finish, but the Deptford has the edge here. Fun PLV monsters!

The nase I find very pleasant with dried fruit, wet stone and nutmeg...On the palate I taste first burnt sugar, then a potpourri of spices and bitter dark chocolate. Mild and creamy it spreads. The finish is between short and medium length!A rum more to the dark side, but I like it very much

Very complex nose. Tart and masculine. Licorice, leather and spices lead through glue and then still to an elusive fruitiness.Crisp and complex in the mouth. Now a bit more caramel. The alcoholis well proportioned.Great finish.A great sipper. Complex, powerful yet well balanced.I recently had an original Navy from the 60's and this one has a very similar flavor profile.

for Black Tot Day the Deptford Dockyard Reserve in the glass. It competes against the Pusser's 50th Anniversary. The Deptford is very spicy-nutty on the nose, with coconut, wood barrel and something that goes in the direction of overripe (citrus) fruit. With the Pusser's 50, more caramel sweetness, vanilla and red fruits come through. On the palate, I got nutmeg and lots of toasty notes, towards mocha, with the Deptford. The Pusser's 50 is also sweeter (more chocolatey) on the palate. Overall, I like the Pusser's 50 still a touch better, because the blend is mE something more coherent.

Took me some time to get my hands on this little sample and I'm thinking about buying a bottle. The price to quality is very good in my mind. Roasted wood through the profile with nutmeg and caramel. Licorice and and citrus is more obvious in the empty glass.

Nicely balanced on the nose. Wood, tropical fruits and some darker leathery notes. Alcohol is bit too present, however. Rich navy profile on the palate. Here I get quite a lot (coloured) Guyana notes, providing lots of dried fruits and depth. Very nice bottling, at a very attractive price point.

Plastic & esters on the nose, paired with fruit & roasted notes. Blackcurrant, rubber, red fruits and a slight dirtiness on the palate. Good navy blend with markers from all the countries represented. Can do something!
Review by Basti
Lots of spice on the nose, licorice, caramel, wood, some coffee, but also rubber/plastic! Then relatively sweet and thin in the mouth. It clearly lacks intensity and complexity, especially if you have navy blends like the Velier Royal Navy or the Tiger Shark in your glass at the same time. The Pusser's doesn't stand a chance here, but also plays in a different league in terms of price.

What a beautiful rum. Still fruity and spicy on the nose. You can smell Jamaica. Dark chocolate dominates in the mouth, then nutmeg and espresso notes. Dark and balanced, alcohol is well integrated. Long finish, bitter, beautiful fine ester. Very nice blend, especially for the price, I would not have expected it to be like this

A fundamentally solid navy blend. The roasted aromas are very concise and persist until the end. Alcohol is well integrated and fun. Due to the super PLV, it just manages the 80 points mark. Thanks Michael for the sample.

Very nice navy blend at a fair price.

And the next Navy in the <100 euro range. The nose promises dried fruit, wood, alcohol and caramel. The palate confirms this, but the alcohol is too present up front. You really have to sip this friend and let it breathe for a long time. So far for me the best navy in this price range.

Nose: the first thing I notice is a slightly dirty note next to a lot of spice and little fruit. Alcohol is very discreet. The nose reminds me of Port Mourant. Palate: a lot of barrel, again Port Mourant but becoming sweeter towards the end.Finish: medium long and as a continuation of the palateGood blend on the border of very good, makes a very mature and round overall impression is a little closed and thus also demanding. The empty glass smells after a while of burnt sugar and caramel!

Alcohol could be better integrated, Jamaica share does not quite fit in here. The 20th anniversary edition I find much better.

Tasted at the German Rumfest and have been pleasantly surprised. Very nice strength and not at all boring. And priced clear winner against a Black Tot, which has just the story 🤷🏻♂️Würde say, so one always goes, maybe just not today 😅 Looking forward to all those who are next year!

Not really my kind of rum. Somehow it reminds me of a prune pickled in Maggi.
Review by Palo - V Poháriku
This rum definitely needs some time in the glass to fully open up. It has really dark notes on the nose, I get mainly wood, black pepper, cocoa and maggi (lovage plant) as weird as it sounds. On the palate, it has the classic molasses-driven style accompanied by licorice espresso and some old wood notes in the finish.

Tasted this rum again and still like i a lot specially since it’s good value for money.
