Velier Carrere Montebello Flora Antillarum 2002
Pour this one neat and go slow — it's a 19-year tropical-aged Guadeloupe rum bottled at a surprisingly low 41.3%. The nose wins everyone over: dried flowers, peach, mandarin and vanilla, "sehr intensiv und fruchtig." The palate turns herbal and grassy with oak, mokka and citrus, but several tasters call it thin and a touch watery — the cask strength label is misleading here.
The community says- Stunning fruity nose
- Complex herbal notes
- Thin, watery palate

How does Velier Carrere Montebello Flora Antillarum 2002 taste?
Aggregated from 37 community reviews.
Gorgeous nose, thin herbal palate Loved for its rich, floral, fruity nose, but most agree the low ABV leaves the palate thin and slightly bitter. A good rum many wish had more punch.

Another rare bottle and I didn't get one and the sample had to suffice. A lovely rum with nice balance and intensity. I like the wood and spices mixed with the light fruit and other notes.

A good expression of montebello!Very rich and fruity but I would have liked to hear it with more degrees. The yield would have been better!

Review by Jakob
Becomes a bit too sweet and sour for me overall, which I attribute to the dilution of the original distillate. Initially with beautiful complexity of fruits, honey, nougat and spices - but at the back just too thin and almost watered down, which gives the citrus fruits in the interplay with the sweetness too much weight. Too bad, because for me the assumption remains that more would have been possible here with more ABV also taste.

Review by TheRhumhoe
An old agricultural rum with a very pleasant olfactory profile, oscillating between fruits (tropical, dry and orange), spices, vegetable notes, coffee and caramel, for a very harmonious whole. In the mouth, the rum is very light and sweet, carried by a profile of sweet spices, cinnamon, hazelnuts and almonds, a succinct fruity side and aromas of cappuccino, chocolate, caramel and hay are also felt. The finish is slightly lacking in impact, though citrus, wood, spice, chocolate, and herbal and floral notes come through. A very good rum on paper, but very expensive for the final rendition, which lacks the intensity to be a level above.

very nice balanced nose. To me come dried flowers, peach, candied fruit, fresh herbs. On the palate, toasty, herbs, barrel, mocha. Unfortunately also noticeably watery. Too bad, because so it does not quite come close to the two Velier Basseterres.

Review by Thunderbird
A very sweet fruity nose! Almost sherry-like!The palate is, although the rum light and thin comes along, quite intense and complex!Fruit and herbs alternate harmoniously! The finish is then again typical Agricole!A good rum, which would probably have been excellent with higher ABV
