Jack Tar Enmore Alpha 1988-1990
Opinions land in a narrow band here: most tasters find it round, elegant and well-integrated for the ABV, but several wanted more. It's a classic Enmore wooden-still profile — wood, smoke, raisin, tobacco and brown sugar, with a citrus edge and long dry finish. A few felt it was reduced a touch too far and reads slightly thin, short on fruit and complexity.

- Warm wood and smoke
- Feels a bit thin

16.04.2025 retasting with Fabian in Blåvand. -------------------- #4088 This is a nicely balanced rum with a warm palate and comparing it to the Omega a bit lighter though they should be almost the same. I love the wood and smoke that is there but not dominant which usually happens in rums this age. Good ABV integration and my shelves are well worth a bottle. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has more smoke and caramel.

Little fruit much spice briefly summarized. In the nose raisins, rubber and something mentholiges. On the palate similar game only comes the woody part to it. Nothing spectacular ... Thanks to Adrian for sharing the sampler👍

Nice blend of two different Enmore vintages. Components of the blends are three barrels of EHP Marques (once 1988, twice 1990), which a slight minerality, which reminds me of Versailles, is not missing. Apparently, both Alpha and Omega bottlings contain the same blend, which honestly doesn't really make sense to me - playing with different nuances would have been the more interesting option here...? Whereby I must state that the present result of the blend absolutely knows how to convince. An exquisite rum. Or rather two. Or not?

Doesn't blow me away. Interesting profile, but not complex enough for me. Am but very grateful to be allowed to try the rums thanks to the raffle.

The nose reminds me strongly of a Versailles. Honey sweetness, yellow fruit, pencil, coffee, herbs, tobacco and white chocolate. Overall a good basic note, but I miss the details in the finish. Slightly bitter/astringent.
Review by Johannes
Overall very dry, astringent, round, but not quite coherent. I find it lacking in body, complexity and fruity notes.
Review by Andi
Very drinkable, elegant, the alcohol is perfectly integrated.

Small comparison tasting: 1. Sample Eleven Enmore 20 years 50,6% 2. Jack Tar Alpha Enmore 1988 - 1990 51,6% 3. Jack Tar Omega 1988-1990 51,6% 4. sample Eleven Albion 9 years 57,2% Jack Tar Alpha Enmore 1988 - 1990 51.6% --------------------------------------- Nose: rounder, spicier, more pleasant/interesting than the Omega. Alcohol well integrated Mouth: slightly smoky, vanilla, quite relaxed from the alcohol. Unfortunately, you get the feeling that the rum has been reduced too far. It doesn't taste watery, but a little "thin". Conclusion: Good, but my expectations were somewhat higher.

I have received this sample by using my RumX points (thanks Oliver!). I am a huge fan of rums from Guyana. This rum is a really distinctive rum with its own twist, which is nice to experience. You either like or dislike it. This is especially the case for the 'Omega'. Personally, I appreciate the Alpha more than the Omega. Howecer, i do like the El Dorado Enmore 1993 and 1993 a bit more. Nevertheless, really happy to try this rum.
