Ron Esclavo XO Cask 2016
Sixty-five percent that drinks mild — that's the surprise most people mention. This is a sweet, thick solera: vanilla, caramel, honey and candied fruit, with a hit of varnish on the nose. At full strength the alcohol lands warm but mostly well tucked in. One member calls it a "turbocharged liqueur," and that's about right — dessert in a glass more than a dry sipper.

Quite a classic aroma for a bourbon-fired solera. Well-integrated alcohol, fairly thick, lots of aroma, a note of vanilla, wood and candied fruit, quite strong on the finish. A very fine discovery.
