New Yarmouth S.B.S Jamaica (PX Cask Matured) NYE/WK 2020
The surprise here is the PX cask: a young, high-ester New Yarmouth (WK mark) loaded with nail polish, glue and solvent, then rounded off with sherry sweetness. Under the funk sit ripe banana, pineapple and sour cherry, with light cinnamon and young oak. Tasters love the fruit and how well the 58.3% hides; the PX finish is the part that splits people.

Aggregated from 64 community reviews.
Funky young NYE with a divisive PX finish Most rate it a fruity, funky New Yarmouth with excellent ABV integration for its age. The recurring catch: the PX finish is polarizing, and it drinks a touch young.

A New Yarmouth boosted by hormones and esters. Nail polish, glue and alcohol (wine) come in full force, hiding very ripe fruit (pineapple, banana, cherry), spices (chili, pepper) and pastry notes (caramel) that come later. A rich, opulent SBS that gains strength with age. The attack on the palate is intense, funky and full-bodied, with beautiful phenolic notes (esters, glue, solvents, nail polish). The fruit is ripe and very present, notably exotic fruit and cherry. Despite this heaviness, a slight sweetness emerges on caramel, marzipan, pastry, spices (chili, vanilla) and wine. The alcohol is very well integrated into this fat, generous profile. The finish is long, dried out by alcoholic, phenolic and tannic notes. Spices, wood and roasted notes are more pronounced. The fruit is ripe, darker and red (cherry). The vinous side also emerges at the very end of the palate. A very pretty bottling, young and experimental, mouthwatering and opulent to the max.

C: D Gold N: Long Pond National Rums of Jamaica anyone? I get a similar feeling! I’ve no idea the ester level on this New Yarmouth but my guessing is very much like the Cambridge-ester-level. I might be wrong, but the esters are there. Words like thickness and heaviness come to mind. Think of overripe peaches/apricots cooked to intensify the flavours, into that add a package of grind aspirin. I know, heavy ester stuff. At times you only get that sweet fruits aroma and it´s wonderful. M: Less intense. The apricots and peaches are there, as well as that medicinal aspirin note, but it is rather civilized compared to the nose. I like that! It makes the rum fresher and fruitier. Do I make any sense? F: It ends elegantly thinking how we started. Lite by lite it fades away. B: Not for me.

This one is really good and the ABV has been integrated really well. Once rested you barely get the 58.3%. Fresh and fruity with light cinnamon and lovely wood. Kind of sweet on the palate.

Very nice rum. Didn‘t like the PX finish.

Wonderful nose with hints of cola and mint. In the mouth you can tell it's a bit younger, but very tasty and fruity with some tea, and of course ester. The finish is also great, there comes through some menthol, accompanied by a fruity note. For me one of the highlights of this year!

Beautiful high Esther rum, light sweetness, young wood, very fruity and mega funky on the palate.

Very cool release. Finally young NYE again and in addition with the highest Estermark WK. The sherry finish I would not have needed and something young he is still. Couple more years and without finish and we get again brutal stuff.

Very successful! High Ester meets a beautiful discreet finish!

VERY PX, in the nose as in the mouth.esters, fruit.but especially this very present PX.not my style of rum, even if I can understand that one likes.Edit: this rum was worth a 2nd tasting. PX too present for my taste, but the fruits mixed with the varnish in mouth are still very pleasant.

A puzzling nose, a much softer palate with lots of fruit. Very nice bottle.

Of the Jamajes tested so far it was the finest, a little shorter finish than the others, but very good

A beautiful finish in a Pedro barrel! Very interesting. The greediness of the finish and the beauty of the Jamaica make for a beautiful blend.

A changing Jam, no doubt due to aging. I find this very well done and interesting, because it's a change from what we know about the island.
Review by Mentalo
Alcohol really well integrated for the young age. Esterexplosion with a slight menthol note. In the finish you then notice quite strongly the PX barrel. Matter of taste

Beautifully fruity and distinctive as always. Unfortunately, not quite balanced. Had already better rums from Jamaica.
Review by Renato
A rum highly concentrated in fruity, pastry-like esters. Rather wise on spices and wood. The finish is not very pronounced. The spectrum of aromas is reduced. All in all, a pleasant juice, but below expectations.

the smell of kanagom The tongue roll is terribly gentle, back and forth longer duration
