Long Pond & Monymusk Myers's Original Dark
Most people land in the same place: this is a mixer, not a sipper. The nose gets real love — heavy molasses, dark fruit, gingerbread — but neat it turns thin, hot for 40%, and slides into a smoky, bitter-chocolate finish some find too much. In cola or a Mai Tai it does its job well as a cheap, molasses-forward Jamaican workhorse.
The community says- Intense molasses nose
- But: Thin, watery body
- But: Hot for 40%

How does Long Pond & Monymusk Myers's Original Dark taste?
Aggregated from 116 community reviews.
Molasses-heavy Jamaican mixer, not a sipper Widely used as a Tiki and cola mixer rather than a neat pour. Great nose and value; thin, smoky and a touch hot on its own.

Bought me some bottles cause I couldn’t find Goslings to a competitive price cause I needed some dark rum to make Dark ‘N’ Stormys during the quite short Swedish summer. Tasted it first neat against Goslings Black Seal. Myers’s was then a clear winner because of nose and finish. When making the Dark ‘N’ Stormy contest I think it’s up to one and each of us to decide. When using Myers’s you get much more rum feeling mostly because of the finish. I prefer Myers’s but Goslings is also great so I think it’s all about personal opinion and taste.

Very solid price-performance ratio. Clean no missing tones. Very dark. However, I find the alcohol strength and complexity a little lacking. Well suited for mixing. However, it is not a must-try

One of my favorite mixers at CubaLibre. It's quite simple on its own. But while others poured Havana3 into the CubaLibre, I preferred this one. Edit, I stick to it, this rum will always be something special, as it accompanied me faithfully through my CubaLibre intoxications in my youth.

Tagesausflug Bielefeld April 2025. Kneipe faces Restaurant & Bar. Ein Rum den ich nie im Leben kaufen würde. Würzig und alkoholisch in der Nase. Am Gaumen auch sehr alkoholisch, außerdem rauchig und holzig. Dunkle Schokolade und Kaffee sind auch erkennbar.

great value here. I paid 15€ for a liter. gives clear jamaica notes and molasses, which also was most present on the palate. Obviously it's not meant to be sipped but mixed, and in those cocktails who aks for such a molasses powerhouse, it works really well.

So it's really the last drink of the evening, you go to pay and find something you've never drunk behind the bar: let's go for it. Frankly, it's enough to make a pancake batter or a cannelé, but no more. Still, there are a few nuances of taste that stand out, like a salted butter caramel with prunes!

"Drinkable" is a great word for this rum. It's got an okay nose; gingerbread and dark fruits, and the palate isn't bad with dark chocolate and pleasant musky notes, but it soon leads into a finish that is far too smoky for my taste and really ruins the experience.

Excellent for the price

It's what you pay for 🤷♂️ I kept coming across it in recipes for tiki drinks, so for that I bought it.

I'm not impressed by this rum, maybe because I'm used to Venezuelan rums. But it's definitely not very round and the chemical note is very high. Jamaican rums are incredible, but not this one, although within its category it is interesting.

Good rum and also for cooking
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
absolute entry level in jamaica range, a little thin but for a 18€ rum and to make uncomplicated drinks absolutely fine.
Review by Jakob Deiner
Rein vom Geruch her wahrscheinlich einer meiner liebsten Rums, wahnsinnig intensiv. Drinks: - Pur: 3/5 - Rum Cola: 4/5 - Rum Mule: 4/5 - Rum Punch: 4/5

You expect something sweeter and rounder than it delivers. Good for mixology.

I can sip it neat but it's best with cola

Nose: Besides the punch of molasses I get funky fruit (brown bananas and tinned prunes), whiffy industrial notes followed by sugarcane, floating in a serious noodle broth. It reminds of Jamaican ginger cake, a treat from my youth I have almost forgotten with age for no good reason. Being my second Jamaican rum ever, this is too a shock to my system. Mouth: It loses some steam on the tongue, which sees it thin out to smoky treacle, ginger spice (quite hot!) and bitter dark chocolate. I'd say Original Dark is quite delicious and drinkable, though the inescapable truth is that it is a mixer. Finish: It loses structure and ends a little watery with a bitter menthol taste. Impression: This bottle, much like the Rumbar Silver, will empty quickly as a mixer, but sipped neat has been a blast. A great experience and step further into Jamaica.

Cinnamon and vanilla on the nose, notes of molasses and burnt sugar. The flavor is very weak and the finish is short. Maybe a decent mixer but certainly not a sipper.
Review by wrighty03
Distinctly Jamaican, woody, tiny bit fruity, good.
Review by Schnapsschuesse
Lots of molasses, right up to assotiations of beet syrup. Overripe fruit basket with a wild mixture of roasted aromas. Spicy for the 40%, surprisingly dry, heavy and roasty. A little buttery in places, but mainly molasses. Absolutely nothing for me in this form, but: with acidity it blossoms, with Orgeat it combines as if made for it. A great standard for everything to do with Mai Tai!

I can see why it compliments the rum blend. Very slight funk, some additional flavors but it does come with a slight burn. Great mixer in small quantities?

Good mixing rum for great price. Not a fan of cheap plastic bottle but probably helps with affordable price

Love this with Pepsi max lime that brings out the flavour This is a blended Jamaican that I adore and is multi functional for cocktails ...dosed to high heaven but still a delight

Tasted neat, not horrible. It's way better mixed. I tried it in Coke, so much better.
