Romdeluxe Long Pond Wild Series Rum Jamaica No. 26 VRW 2005

What surprises people is how much wood muscles in alongside the fruit. Expect glue and acetone up top, then mango, papaya and citrus zest, with vanilla and a dry, toasted-oak backbone. At 68.4% it hits hard and hot, so give it air and a few drops of water. A "very characterful Long Pond" that leans darker and woodier than the usual VRW tropical fruit basket.

Direct comparison in a blind tasting between the two sister casks. Almost identical key data. Two outstanding bottlings. Both fight on the dark side of the force with wet wooden swords peppered with dark cherries and blackberries. A bit of funk shines through as the aromatic swords clash. The aromas explode when they clash until there is nothing left and both opponents lie exhausted on the ground. Then 12464 has the longer breath. RX12502 The finish seems to evaporate, but loops and comes out fruity and lingers. and lingers for a very long time. brilliant! RX12464 Brilliant. An absolute favorite of mine. Two excellent rums.

On the nose very pleasantly fruity and mild, hardly noticeable ester, but cookie, vanilla and cinnamon! Overall very surprising! On the palate first classic LP: papaya, passion fruit and ester! Some wood and slight acidity join with a metallic tone to it!The alcohol is not so well integrated, however, there he falls ggü other LP's same vintage clearly! The finish is very pleasant, but not very long!A good, but not outstanding LP!

Once back home I was in the mood for a few more rums so why not a wild one 😉 A very nice and well balanced rum with nice esters and fruits galore. The spices just compliment the overall impression.

A rum from the Samples de Luxe forward calendar. A rather violent nose with glue, old varnished wood, tropical fruit and a certain sweetness. The palate also attacks hard, but more on the fruit (papaya) and even a very pleasant vegetal and floral side. A touch of varnished wood, as on the nose. The finish is long, warm, spicy and black-tea-like. A false badass with complexity and a certain sweetness. I love it!

A thrilling Long Pond. The nose is powerful, very heavy on tropical fruit, citrus, apricot and phenols (esters, glue, varnish). Then comes the sweetness of caramel, toffee and brown sugar. There's also spice (vanilla, cinnamon), tobacco and toasty wood notes to boot. An intense but unpleasant profile. The pleasantness of the nose is completely erased on the palate: the mouth is extremely powerful and sharp, warm and intense. There's a strong astringency, a metallic edge, lots of spice (pepper, cinnamon), but also smoke, fruit and phenolic notes. It's like a hammer blow on the palate. The alcohol is a little too aggressive; a reduction would have been welcome. The finish is extremely long, dry and intense. Spicy, cocoa-flavored, smoky, caffeinated and bitter, the profile is also influenced by licorice and black tea. A Long Pond that offers a darker, empyreumatic facet than usual, but remains a little too extreme. Sensitive palates please.

Wild wild series rum, needs a little in the glass. With a drop or two of water, it opens up all its aromas. The finish could be a little longer, which unfortunately prevents a better rating. I also think the price is a little too ambitious.

I prefer this one to the sister barrel at 68.5 ... this one doesn't have the coconut note and somehow comes across as more longpondy.
