Swell de Spirits DDL Flashback series #3 1995

Sipped neat is how this 1995 Demerara from Swell de Spirits gets drunk, and the pot-still signature is loud: pencil shavings, wet oak, eucalyptus and light tea, with just a whisper of fruit. Several tasters call it round and floral with the 53.4% tucked in well; a few find it turns dry, woody and a touch bitter as the glass sits.

The community says
  • Well-integrated alcohol
  • Pencil-lead complexity

Aggregated from 58 community reviews.

Woody, pencil-lead Demerara sipper Most find it a balanced older Demerara with pencil-lead, tea and smoky oak, alcohol well integrated. A vocal minority feels it drifts too woody and dry, and fruit stays faint.

Very progressive. On the nose as on the palate, its profile changes a lot with time. I thought I'd be disappointed on first taste, but in the end I was not. A skilful blend of fruit, wood, smoke and pepper. Nothing imposes itself, everything integrates. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. A very good wine.

#4082 I'd say the price tag matches what you get with this release. A really nicely balanced Demerara with light fruits and smoky wood notes. The palate is lightly dry and oily and I like the light floral note in the profile. The empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some licorice and black tea notes.

Surprisingly balanced Port Mourant, in direct comparison to other continental aged PM release already downright mild. Pleasant wood aromas meet herbs and kitchen spices and subtle fruit sweetness. Exciting PM vintage.

Rare vintage 1995! Very nice round PM reminiscent of the 97 vintage. I like very much!
