Swell de Spirits Long Pond Co-bottling series #4 ITP 2007
The Long Pond that surprises even funk chasers — this is a low-ester one, and people love it anyway. Think caramelised banana, toasted coconut and almond pastries, with cedar and black pepper filling in behind. At 68% it's hot; give it twenty minutes to open. Several tasters keep comparing it to a powerful Foursquare rather than a classic ester bomb.

Wertung: 8,7

Extremely cool funky (low ester) long pond. Alcohol top integrated and really fun after just 5 minutes of breathing. I am very positively surprised by this bottling!🤤🇯🇲💣 For me, it can easily keep up with the previous velier 2007 bottlings! Hard to say which ester mark has been hit here... From the sweet notes it could be a MBS from the fermented notes but also almost a TECA... Supposedly it's an ITP! In any case, really cool stuff! Flavorful flambéed banana, lots of orange peel - zest and fresh juice, black pepper, dark chocolate, some mint and coconut macaroons! 🤤

This rum needs time to mature. Let the bottle air out a little. Do the same with each glass. Then you can fully enjoy this ultra-evolving profile: a skilful blend of fruit, wood, pastry, vanilla and so on. It's amazing how it evolves. Tannins are quite present, but the wine is deliciously pastry-like. As usual with Mika Barbaria's selections: a superb rum. Edit: With a drop of water to try and lower the alcohol level a little, you don't lose the richness of this rum. I would have liked a small reduction to make it more accessible after all.

First and foremost fruity wafts of toasted coconut, blackberries and orange zest; followed by caramelised banana and custard filled pastries. The heart consists of oak and malt, lightly nutty and bitter coffee, chased by a little bit of glue stick and lots of black tea. Prominent banana and toasted coconut on the palate. More bakery notes: vanilla, cinnamon and crème patissière. Toast with milky coffee on the side. Subsequently intensely spicy with black pepper. Ends in more floral black tea. The finish is medium in length with caramelised banana and coconut as well as coffee with slightly too much milk.

Indeed, not a typical LP. Very fruity and little ester.Nose: an intense and pleasant aroma spreads in the space around the glass. Superficially it is very tropical fruity with tart sweet passion fruit, fine coconut, and papaya, but next to it banana and a touch of apricot with cherry. At the same time it is full and spicy with vanilla and licorice. The barrel also comes through and is ready of white chocolate. Also noticeable is the intense, pleasant sweetness that reminds me of sugar syrup and caramel. A great round nose, the high ABV supports but is very well integrated. 90Palate: on the palate the alcohol is then not so well integrated. It is quite strong, astringent and bitter-salty-sour at the start. I then find some ester tones here as well. The bitter notes turn to lemon and orange peel, becoming increasingly metallic, spicy and woody. Toasted out the back, slightly toasty and some umami. Can't keep up with the nice nose on the palate. 82Nose very nice, palate too unbalanced and bitter. Overall, an interesting aloe-ester LP.

This LP is too immature for me ! He is characterized me too much of the spicy roasty side! Fruit is barely perceptible on the palate ! The alcohol also dominates me too much! Even after some time in the glass he does not win to it

Strong release from Swell ! Well balanced and despite 68% really good to drink ... am actually rather fan of higher Ester Marks just at Long Pond but this clearly proves that there is also in the unterem range really good stuff ... great fruit, some wood, some bitterness in the finish and almost perfectly integrated alcohol make fun for more! Auch hier könnte ich ewig dran schnüffeln. Kokosnuss, trop. Sehr guter Long Pond!!

Review by Djehey
At 68°, this rum is very intense. Too intense for me... And yet, with time, its fire seems to calm down, allowing the aromas to express themselves more fully. There's a lot of greed, fruit and spice. I like it, but in small doses...

Review by DUBOIS Arnaud
Review by Agricoler
Sehr schöner Long Pond Low Ester.
Review by Oliver
Untypical Long Pond. Little ester and rather hints of the barrel-strong Appleton Hearts. Very intense and concentrated. Alcohol could be a bit better integrated. Nevertheless, exciting profile!
Review by Fran13
J'adore 🤩

Wuchtiger, tropisch gereifter Long Pond. Sehr gut!
Review by Barnagricole
A super-evolving, polymorphic nose that's astonishing. The palate starts slowly and the alcohol comes on gradually. Could have been reduced a little.
Review by Arthur Moreau

Tasted after Velier Teca 2005. The wood and dryness is more pronounced, personally miss the fruit. Alcohol is detectable.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
A very nice Long Pond. Warm and fruity with nice woodiness and spices. I like the roasted note in the background.
Review by Johannes
Alcohol not so well integrated. Overall somewhat flat due to the low ester pith, but nice tropical fruit.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Ooooh! Mild, woody, chocolate, leather. Amazing! EDIT: And that creamy nose at the beggining. WOW!

Superbe.
Review by zabo
I actually already like these low ester long ponds, but this bottling is a little too alcoholic on the palate for me. Even after a little time in the glass, it doesn't get much better. Unfortunately, this denies it a better rating.
