The Whisky Jury Bellevue Rum Guadeloupe 1998
Sandalwood, cardamom and a caramel-sweet base run through this 24-year Bellevue, with overripe pineapple, licorice and light leather rounding it out. Several tasters were surprised by how much ester and tropical fruit shows up — one blind guessed a tropically-aged Jamaican. It needs to rest in the glass or the 54.4% takes over, but let it open and it turns creamy and layered.

How does The Whisky Jury Bellevue Rum Guadeloupe 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 28 community reviews.
Aged Bellevue: herbal, spiced, tropical, needs air A well-loved old Guadeloupe: herbal, spiced, tropical and unusually sweet-leaning for a Bellevue. Give it air and the alcohol settles nicely. A few felt the price was steep.

Simply overwhelming. THIS IS RUM! A very clear recommendation. If only it weren't for the price ...

Incredible. Almost Caroni like Bellevue.

16.06.2022 A nice day running through samples at home. Notes Medium to dark in colour. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, plum, fruity, spice, light tobacco, light ginger, cherry. Palate Oily, balanced, medium intense, light roasted wood, berries, light licorice, faint coconut, prunes. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, berries, spice, light licorice, oily, faint tar. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while or the ABV will take over. The change in the profile while resting is amazing to say the least.

A great Bellevue - the subtle licorice between all the sugar, roasted flavors and tropical fruits, make for a very round rum.
Review by Boletus
A magnificent ''Bellevue'' that takes the connoisseur on an ideally balanced aromatic journey from fine woody notes with a delicious, caramel-like sweetness to tropical fruits and knows how to delight both the nose and the palate. Great cinema!

Tasted together with the Milano Rum Festival Bellevue. As with the Milano, a very inviting and multi-layered nose with slightly berry notes of a Savanna HERR. On the palate, there are lots of heavy/roasted aromas and a slight bitterness. I like it a little bit better than the Milano, but it probably depends on your mood on the day. Both great bottlings!
Review by Buddudharma
Would have blindly guessed a tropically matured Jamaican here, perhaps Great House or something. Lots of esters and fruit on the nose, unusual for a Bellevue. Similar on the palate, but less pronounced, with wood, spices and caramel also playing a part. Great, creamy mouthfeel, alcohol integration is top, really fun, even if it is clearly different from most Bellevues I know.
Review by Johnny Rumcask
Typical representative of the 98th Bellevue bottlings, which are quite predominantly on a high level: herbs, spices, some tobacco and leather. Price unfortunately exaggerated, for less money rather buy another 98iger bottling.

A bit woody for me! But maybe I’m just sensitive to the oak.
