Bielle Canne BIO

Members keep landing on one word for this white agricole: "gourmand." Fresh sugarcane leads, with a squeeze of lime and a green vegetal backbone; the palate turns oily and velvety with black pepper, a touch of anise and a honeyed edge. The finish runs earthy and medium. Straightforward rather than layered — one taster calls it monolithic, but a tasty kind of monolithic.

A dominant scent of vegetal, sugar cane and lime. Not much else. Very few aromas on the palate, with a hint of alcohol, followed by vegetal and a touch of honey. The finish is short, with the same aromas. An excellent rum for mixology, too simple to be enjoyed neat. But the taste is delicious.

Unsurprising nose. The palate is in the same vein, with a certain unctuousness. Pepper is present. Aniseed and lemon zest are added. The finish is medium-bodied, with a touch of earthiness. Nice

Marie Galante

Avg Rating 8.4/10 over 420 Rums

Marie Galante is a small round island off Guadeloupe that punches far above its size in rum. Known as the island of a hundred windmills, it makes powerful, high-proof agricole, often bottled at 59 percent and up, from three working distilleries. For agricole lovers it is one of the most characterful corners of the French rum world.
